Cable Beach, Broome

We arrived in Broome last Friday our 3rd visit.

Broome is on the Western Coast of Western Australia (WA). It's a pearling and tourist town in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 2,240 in north of Perth.  The permanent population is estimated at 14,436, growing to over 45,000 per month during the tourist season which is Winter.

I took these sunset shots Thursday evening, tonight was a grand sunset much nicer that these.
Many people come to see the sunset at Broome. They bring their wine or beer, a chair to sit on and a few bring there cameras, but heaps bring their Tablets and use those for photos.  There are Camel rides to be had with 3 sets of Camels as in Companies. Many people drive onto the beach going up the nudist end and park to watch as we do. That's what you do in Broome in Winter when 30 degC or more.

Broome is an isolated place, there is no getting in the vehicle and driving to the next town. The next town is 600 km away down south.

  2. What lovely sunset photos Margaret - a real treat! It all sounds very idyllic, although I couldn't live in such an isolated town.

I couldn't live here forever, just for a short term.

Would melt in their temperatures though.
Thank you for taking me to a place I will probably never reach myself.

  6. Margaret, you have captured the essence of Broome's WORLD famous sunsets magnificently.
I think I could retire there but the cyclone season would prove some re-thinking - ha ha!
Looking forward to more shots/blogs on Broome showing why it is now so World famous
    as an escape location.
When taking photos of the camels - avoid the spitting zone (front) and the "unfresh air" zone,
the rear end - ha ha. A side angle photo would be the best option.
Pure bliss sitting there at night with the beer and wine cooler and just "letting the world go by".
    Lucky buggers!
    Cheers
    Colin

    1. Thank you Colin.
I wouldn't like to be here in the Wet season, but then again the electrical storms would be something to see.
I took photos of camels close up and personal :). No, didn't get spat on thank goodness, was watching out for that! Though did get a whiff of the smell as the camels walked past later...
Yes, I do have photos of Broome...

  7. I can see why people come to watch the show. The sunset you photographed is just glorious. Where I'm living now we have some beautiful sunsets but I haven't been able to capture the vivid colors very well and it's very disappointing.

    1. There are many colours and I have more photos taken another evening of the sunset, more dramatic due to more cloud present.

    1. The 600km is south of Broome. Yes, we will drive there later. There are a couple of places to stop and get diesel on the way, no houses though.
But yes, it's 600km to the next town where you can buy some things. Broome here is fairly good but certainly there is no variety in furnishings, homewares, clothes, but, there are plenty of 'pearls' worth thousands of dollars, and millions.

    1. Welcome home. I was wondering how you were going with the 'ash' etc.
Really, well I suppose that would be correct which way you would come. Saw two go late this afternoon, one down south the other further north.
Thank you...having a lovely time...hope you did too.

  12. I can't quite remember now but is it close to Broome where you can see dramatic tidal changes? I've seen video of the place and it was fascinating.

  17. Gorgeous sunsets!
I've wanted to visit Broome since I read about it in a novel by Arthur Upfield when I was a teenager.
I'll get there eventually, hope it is still unspoilt by then.

    1. I'm sure you will get to Broome one day. It's still quiet unspoilt though there are a few more suburbs. No high rise buildings which is good..

    1. Don't always get the opportunity to be where there is nothing before the sea and the sun setting.
