Breakaways near Coober Pedy SA.

Lovely to visit and such colours in this area of the barren country of ours. It's here also that the Dingo fence can be seen [Longest Fence].
Remembering these breakaways were once an inland sea.

A couple of houses (underground)

    1. Adam, I have no idea. Be just the same as living on top of the soil, but underground you have stone or whatever walls....photos are coming of underground houses.
It's extremely hot in the summer time and cold in winter...underground it keeps more of an even temperature all year round..

  3. I didn't realize part of the underground houses is above ground. So interesting how people adapted to the extreme temperatures in a way that allowed them to survive. That white rock really stands out against all the red color. I wonder what it's made of.

    2. All this far a I can recall and according to my photos, all houses underground the entrance is at the side of a hill...
Beautiful colours of the earth and surrounds. I searched to find out what the mounds/hills are made of, couldn't find.

  6. Agree 100% with "EC" - it is harsh, unforgiving countryside - not for the faith hearted.
Still it is what makes us what we are and we love our country the best and most beautiful
with all types of topography in the World.
Signing out now from PC and E-mail land - holidays are not meant to waste time with such things, unless like your leisurely travels and doing a travelogue of great interest - mine will be computer free - ha ha.
    Cheers

  9. 3rd photo, looks like those mounds have been built upon, but a couple of photos later I see it is just caves.
I like the spaciousness out there, sometimes here in the flats I feel as if all my neighbours are far too close. Handy if I fall and can't get up, I can just yell for help, but I can hear them pee and that's TMI.
