A treat to see this creature up close and personal.
My husband watched this Blue Tongue Lizard wander into the garage. It was slow, probably thirsty as it was a hot day. Yes, we put some water nearby, but it wasn't interested. Finally, the lizard went under the fence to visit next door.
These lizards cause no harm and are not dangerous at all, the best thing to do is leave them alone.
I was sitting in the car when I took the first photo with my phone.
Aww
ReplyDelete:)

DeleteWow! A strange lizard. I've never seen one before. Is it big?
ReplyDeleteIt's a normal lizard found here and there are many types within Australia. Not it's not a real big lizard, I've seen bigger ones.
DeleteWhat a scare! although you say they don't hurt!
ReplyDeleteThey cause no harm but I expect they would try and bite you or scratch if you were not careful, if you tormented them. We just let it be and it went on it's merry way.
DeleteOhh dear😲What something to see👍I thought it was a huge crocodille. Uff those lizars frightens me..I have heard there are many snakes and bad bugs in Australia too..You have to look in the shoes every morning😁Very good shoot of something I have never seen👍😊
ReplyDeleteThanks Anita. There are different types of lizards within Australia and they really don't do much harm if you leave them alone of course. If they feel threatened, then it's a different matter. The lizard in the photo is not too harmful to humans.
DeleteSnakes, don't see them often down here, just let them be if you do see one. Some areas and parts of Australia have snakes in the towns, they come in from the bush, there are snake catches who catch them take them a good way into the bush and let them go free. Spiders, well some are harmful, others are not. We learn to live with the creatures of this world, as you learn to live with the creatures where you are. Many people have never seen a real snake or a lizard, Anita. 😁
That looks scary!
ReplyDeleteLooks it but it's ok. It really didn't take any notice of us, we let it do it's own thing.
DeleteIt was looking for lunch, mostly insects.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was, that's part of their diet.
DeleteIncredible photo of this Lizard. I would stand far far away from him. :)
ReplyDeleteWould you! I was standing in front but decided to get into the car to take the photo.
DeleteHe has incredible markings on his back.
ReplyDeleteIt sure does, and pretty colours too. I've never seen one so close before.
DeleteWhat beautiful markings. I think they might be a little different to ours here. Ours seem duller.
ReplyDeleteEastern Blue Tongue Lizards and a little different to Northern ones so I read, Andrew. I didn't have HDR on, on the phone either.
DeleteLove it. Very interesting lizard.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary. It is a beauty.
DeleteI can assure you that they bite and I was almost bitten by one on a couple of occasions - they love chook eggs, so be careful when collecting eggs from nests.
ReplyDeleteThe bite does require a trip - poste haste to a doctor for a needle.
Not sure which is the worst - the blue tongue or the frizzle-next ones who love trees.
Nothing like climbing a tree in the bush (farm/property as we call them in Australia) and thinking you are grabbing a branch than finding you have a frizzle-neck in your hand. You fall out of the tree poste-haste - I know. The ground up Moree/Mungindi/Boomi way is hard!
Ah the fun of childhood days - I still have my memories - ha ha.
Lovely day here - sunny but coldish.
Cheers
Colin
Yes those frilled lizards and also beautiful and if ones of those comes running at you you are supposed to lay down as if standing the lizard thinks you are a tree. I guess if you are in the Blue Tongue Lizards way it might do you a bit of harm, or if it's tormented, maybe mating season, this one was rather docile but we did let it do it's own thing. They are not venomous,, Colin (so says the internet).
DeleteYep - not venomous but you should go to see a doctor for a needle as you may be allergic to the bite. Well so I have been told but it was way back in the 1950s.
DeleteThe good days before the loonies of today have taken over - ha ha.
Lovely day here again and the surf is way up. I bet there are a few naughty kids wagging school!!!
I live about 4 K's from Terrigal beach and late at night and in the early morning when I wake up you can hear the surf pounding the beach.
Quite soothing really.
Cheers
Colin
Good sound hearing the waves coming in when you live near the sea.
DeleteNeed a tetanus injection I expect if one got bitten.
Lindo lagarto. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It is a sweetie.
DeleteHe's beautiful and young too I think. We used to have a large colony living in the grounds here but many have been killed over the years by people not seeing them as they sunbake on the driveways and get run over, some die because people think they are snakes and bash them with shovels, others eat snail bait. I have one living in the hole where the downspout goes underground and see him only about twice a year.
ReplyDeleteHe looks young R. Some people are cruel indeed. If you run over one that mostly can't be helped. Good to have one living near you as long as you don't go to step on it.
DeleteOh.. yikes. Harmless or not I'd stay away.
ReplyDeleteWould you. I walked with it, stood in front of it, didn't annoy it at all so it went on it's merry way. They are not everyone favourite creature of course.
DeleteBuenas imagenes de esos animales, amiga
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's good I had my phone with me, if I'd gone to get the digital camera by the time I returned, the lizard would have been gone.
DeleteThis is a beautiful lizard.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have this species in the Netherlands, but we do have many smaller species.
Greetings Irma
It certainly is a lovely lizard, Irma. We also have small one too.
DeleteHe looks like a gentleman. He'd be welcome at our place. He'd be the only lizard of any kind for miles.
ReplyDeleteHe does indeed look like a gentleman, and I guess there maybe another around in a garden nearby.
DeleteHello Margaret
ReplyDeleteI sometimes come across lizards in the bushes and in the garden, they are of course much smaller, very agile and always run away from people. They usually don't have the habit of entering the house and that's a blessing :)
I wish you a great week.
Thank you. That's interesting, I haven't come across a lizard in our garden for years.
DeleteHe would be very welcome in my world. What a handsome fellow!
ReplyDeleteHe certainly is a handsome one, love the markings and colour.
DeleteI'm sure he enjoyed your reactions.
ReplyDeleteI guess he did seeing he posed for me..lol
DeleteHow big do those get and what do they eat?
ReplyDeleteThey grow to about 23 inches. They eat insects, fruit, veggies, snails, slugs and so on.

It certainly is a delightful colour. You made me smile regarding the cockroach, not a nice creature.
DeleteEs boniito Margarita, aunque creo que si yo lo hubiese visto me hubiese asustado, la fas fotografias estupendas
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo
Thank you. I suppose if you are not used to seeing such a creature it would be a bit daunting when you did see one.
DeleteTim loves lizards, me I am fine with them as long as I don't have to touch them
ReplyDeleteFair enough Jo-Anne.
DeleteBeautiful creature
ReplyDeleteIt sure is.
DeleteI have never seen such a big exe, we only have very small ones and they are very agile.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that you were able to admire and photograph this specimen.
Thank you and best regards from Viola.
You are welcome Viola. We also have smaller and bigger lizards.
DeleteI mean this most sincerely, he's a handsome fellow! I have always had a fascination for reptiles and I would have enjoyed observing him in the real. Grateful for your photos, thanks Margaret.
ReplyDeleteAlso meant to say, loved the Aesop quote and your darling little girl at the end.
DeleteThank you Denise. It was a joy to see him wandering around as if he owned the place.
DeleteThanks re little girl AI plus the Aesop quote.
A mí me encantaría tenerlo en mi jardín, es muy bonito. Besos.
ReplyDeleteI expect it goes from garden to garden as there isn't much bush around this area now.
DeleteBefore reading, just looking at it made me scary a little but after reading my heart melts down for this stunning creature 😍
ReplyDeleteVery nicely taken shots dear Margaret 👌
Blessings to you and family ♥️
Well when you first look at the lizard it does look a bit scary, then you realize how beautiful it is.
DeleteThank you Baili.
A mí, estos animalitos no me atraen mucho... En verdad, no me atraen nada.
ReplyDeleteUn saludo, amiga
They may be harmless but just seeing them causes respect and fear
ReplyDeleteRegards
