Mindil Beach, NT

Mindil Beach at Darwin is a popular one especially for the Mindil Market which I've never attended as I'm not a market person.  There is another post done in 2015 and here is the link to the Market video.
In this post the first photo is of the first vehicle we had to tow out first caravan.  The remainder of the photos are of the beach the last photo is another beach further along to the east of Darwin with two men going fishing with a net.

Darwin, NT

Darwin in the Northern Territory (NT) down by the sea in the tropics of Australia.

The first photo is of the War Memorial.  2nd is of the Wharf in the distance with the flower Bougainvillea in the foreground. 3rd is of Government House and the 4th of the garden outside the fence. Government House in Darwin was built to let the sea breeze flow through with a lot of shutters seen on the ground floor.

The trees above around a Government building, then canoes and a lot of yachts, on our last visit to this area in Darwin not so many plus the eating houses were no more, just one or two shops were open, totally different .

The photo is of one of the beach areas looking towards Beagle Gulf/Timor Sea.

Darwin, NT

Darwin the the Capital of the Northern Territory (NT). The population is about 82,000 people. Darwin is in the Tropics of Australia, it's hot and humid in Summer and not too bad in Winer but still humid and hot. There are several beaches and one must be careful of the Saltwater Crocodiles if you see any. We never have in the area.
We have been 3 times to Darwin seeing it change over the years and of course we travelled with the caravan behind us first and second time with our other caravan and vehicle.  The distance is on the map below from home to Darwin via the road.  There isn't a great deal to see along the way, a few towns and off the road camping in peoples paddocks is very handy with a few dollars given to the owner, no water or power.   The terrian is flat, some of it desert with the road usually very straight.

The first photo is of the Mall, or more like it just part of it.

Second photo is what was left of a building after Cyclone Tracy which arrived in Darwin at Christmas time in 1974, it just flattened Darwin and the noise of the Cyclone can be heard at the museum, just a dreadful noise as we went there and listened.

Third photo is of a Public building, the fourth one can't recall what it houses but I believe it survived the Cyclone even though it's near to the sea.

The remainder of the photos are of the caravan park, the palms, the fruit bats come to eat those in the evening and one has to make sure the vehicle is not parked underneath those trees as their 'business' stains the vehicles right through the paint.

The beach at Darwin, NT

I'm not wrapped in the beaches in Darwin but of course many people do like them.
There is a market called Mindil Market or Mindil Beach Sunset Market which it is said to be a wonderful market.  Markets are not my 'thing'.
Sunsets are supposed to be lovely there too, but I didn't capture one.

The video is fast motion that goes for about 1 minute and 41 seconds.   It gives some idea of the size of the market.

The above is really nice with beautiful grounds to the sand and sea.

Darwin Nothern Territory and the WAR.

Darwin is the capital city of the Northern Territory, Australia. (The Top End)
It's situated on the Timor Sea and is the largest city in the sparsely populated Northern Territory, with a population of about 136,400.
Darwin was originally a pioneer outpost.

The Dutch visited Australia's northern coastline in the 1600s and created the first European maps of the area.

The Bombing of Darwin, also known as the Battle of Darwin on February 19, 1942 was both the first and the largest single attack ever mounted by a foreign power on Australia.  On this day, 242 Japanese aircraft attacked ships in Darwin's harbour and the town's two airfields in an attenpt to prevent the Allies from using them as bases to contest the invasions of Timor and Java.
The town was only lightly defended and the Japanese inflicted heavy losses upon the Allied forces at little cost to themselves.  The urban areas of Darwin also suffered some damage from the raids and there were a number of civilian casualties.
The raids were the first and largest of almost 100 air raids against Australia during 1942 - 43.

Arrived in Darwin NT.

Along way up the middle of Australia, finally arriving in Darwin.
Left home in Launceston, Tasmania on June 23, arriving Darwin July 15 for 10 days in the one place, wow, a bit unusual to stay put for a change.
We headed to the caravan park we had stayed in before.  I had phoned through and booked a site for the 10 days.

As you can see above we are partly underneath a huge tree and in the shade in this Tropical city that only has two seasons, dry and wet.  Not many were 'privileged' to have this shade.

The palm trees near by and those berries, well the bats come and eat when ripe.
Mustn't park the vehicle under that, otherwise, the paint work on the vehicle with be ruined with the bats droppings.

We headed towards the city and on the way I took some photos.

The Cyclone Shelter which in underneath the Supreme Court.

I have forgotten what is in this building.

Government House in Darwin.

Just a long a bit there is the wharf, the art depicts the War long ago.

A bay, looks peaceful.

Near this bay there are shops but most were closed even the restaurant to the left was, and all was gone.  Last time we came here it was very busy, but not anymore.

Tropical Flowers

Frangipani is blooming here in the Top End of Australia.  They grow to about 5 to 6 meter high and don't burn unless there is extreme heat.  The most common colour is white with yellow centre.

The second photo I have no idea what flower it is.  Both photos were taken at Government House in Darwin.
