Peacock

Peacocks at the Gorge, Launceston, Tasmania.
The Gorge is only about 10 to 15 minutes away from the city, there is a chair lift, beautiful gardens, swimming pool, swinging bridge and a couple of restaurants.  The one I'm showing is rather lovely inside and out and the peacocks come to visit, can jump on the tables outside and demand a morsal of food.  Such beautiful birds.

A bird on Good Friday.

I just love looking at the Northern Cardinal and had never seen one before until David up there in Canada put a photo on his blog showing this gorgeous bird.  Here is a link to a few photos of his of the bird on David's Blog.

I've been having 'fun' with AI with the help of Denise to begin with.

It's also Good Friday, so I did Jesus on the Cross in AI.

The Bird and the Sea

We stopped at the rest area on the way to Scottdale in the north east coast of Tasmania, Australia on our drive.  A visitor arrived and perched itself on the car mirror, it was very friendly and obviously looking for food which we didn't have.  My husband put the window down and we thought it was going to come into the car so we snapped a photo and put the window up.

*The bird is a Black Currawong which is a large crow-like bird (although related to the Butcher birds), around 50cm (20 in) long on average, with yellow irises, a heavy bill, and black plumage with white wing patches and tail tips.

The Black Currawong is endemic to Tasmania, but widespread.
We have two currawongs in Tasmania, the endemic Black, and a sub-species of the Gray, which ironically, in Tasmania is so dark as to appear black.* The text was copied from [ here ]
The photos were taken with my phone.

Of course being by the sea as in Bridport a photo of Bass Strait was insured along with the remains of the old jetty.

Richmond, Tasmania

That's 'him' waiting patiently for me whilst I walk over the old bridge to take photos. Certainly no place for caravan parking.

Oldest stone span bridge in Australia built by convicts the foundation stone was laid in 1823, bridge finished 1825. I've shown pictures of the bridge before but never shown these from 2015.

Fire Pit

Our Firpit in Huonville in the Caravan Park in slow motion, rather a weird sound as I didn't remove it.

Below that Miss E and Master Z in my chair.  Then a couple of birds that came and went.

A man walked by and a child, seeing as they didn't see me I took a shot. Then two people kayaking on the river.

Moving on.

We moved from Hervey Bay to Mudjimba Queensland which is on the Sunshine Coast in Winter 2019.  First photo was taken at Tiaro, then at Bli Bli of a new shopping complex, moving on to the Bunnings store as we drove past, then the little bird who came to visit whilst staying at Mudjimba which was only two nights, it was school holidays and the park was full.

We visited B's Auntie in Brisbane for the day, so next photo is the approached to the Gateway
Bridge to get to her house.  That bridge is a toll bridge, we rang up to pay, gave the details when we returned to the caravan park, but to this day we haven't been charged.
Initially we were charged $1.00, then when we arrived home to Tasmania we noticed they had given us the $1.00 back! The fee for the bridge return is several dollars.

The photo of the Hotel/Pub, well that was once an Ettamogah Pub link here so you can see what I'm talking about.

Lucky I was sitting outside with the camera to get this shot.

Snow

At home - from the home front it snowed on a few mountains Sunday night/morning on the Island.  The photo below is of Mt. Barrow a low mountain not that far from home, we can see it out the family room window and at the front of the house looking east. It has to be cold for snow to fall on this mountain, many years snow doesn't fall on Mt. Barrow.
It's 1,406 meters above sea level, 22 klms from Launceston. The rock is classed as Jurassic.

It appears that some of my photos have gone from the blog - they might reappear, well hopefully they do as I didn't remove them.

From Friday's post we move forward to some more scenery at Elliot Heads in Queensland.

The lookout below and what's on the Submarine Lookout, the Remembrance of those who fought in the Wars.

There is a man on that rock, fishing.

Back at the caravan park in Bundaberg the bird came to visit.

Monto, Queensland

Monto in Queensland was our next stop for a couple of nights in the caravan park.  Hardly anyone in the park which happened in many parks on the way up north in winter and back down south in spring.  Plenty of caravans on the road going north and going south.

Never stayed in Monto before so on the second day we drove around the district of this rural town. Population of Motos is about 1,850 people.

Photos of the town and you will notice how parking in some areas is in the middle of the road.

Highest temperature at Monto is 44.5 C (112.1 F) in a January, doesn't say what year.

Above the Retirement Village across from the caravan park.

Many town do have trouble with some magpies being a nuisance to humans, first time I've ever seen a sign like this.

I can think of many things to caption this magpie with.

Information Centre

The Town Pharmacy

Anyone for Tennis!

The Local Pub.

A Church

Monto Shire Council building.

Horse Racing track and a bronze statue of Kenny Russell who was a local and world renowned jockey who sadly lost his life in a race fall in October 1993.  Ken was born in Monto in 1951.

Looks like holding pens for cattle in Monto.
