A day visit to Yepphoon, Queensland.

Down to Rockhampton to stay for awhile in winter of 2017, after we settled there travelled for a day trip for lunch to Yeppoon in Queensland, when we arrived the Cafe was closed (Monday only)!  Never mind another time perhaps.

We have visited Yeppoon before, this post is a different take on last years one.

Yeppoon is a coastal town and  Yeppoon is renowned for its beaches, tropical climate, and the islands out on the bay. Twenty-five minutes from the city of Rockhampton, a string of seaside communities stretching more than 150 kilometres (93 mi) from north to south. The beaches and shallow coves provide a destination both for tourists and miners settling down in Central Queensland. Offshore, there are 27 islands including Great Keppel Island which is 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Yeppoon.

Camilla, Queensland on our way to Rockhampton.

Camilla in Queensland has a population of about 400 people.  There is a service station plus food, we often call to get some chips and maybe fish at the roadhouse.

These flowers are beautiful in colour and are a nice contrast against the blue and the colour of the road.

The old house, still no one lives in it and each year it looks worse.

From Bowen to Mackay, Queensland

After spending several weeks in Bowen we headed back down to Mackay to stop for a few days.

The photos below are of Slade Point and it's new building.  Been up there several times to look at the view and to watch the whales going north in Winter, this past winter we did it once again as it had been closed for about 1 year.
We saw some whales and came across some friends who used to live near home in Tasmania.
It's been several years since we had seen them and by sheer chance they were where we were, the photo of them their dog and one of their grandchildren is below.
We ended up having dinner at their house that evening, so good to catch up on all the news.

Caravan wash day.

Went exploring in a new suburb in Bowen and came across these two houses, the one below - no one lives in it and it doesn't appear to be for sale either.
Both houses have a nice view of the sea.

The Sea

Don't know who these two people are, they were looking for shells.

The fish and chip shop down by the wharf with lovely fresh fish daily - for lunch oneday we had Barramundi and chips, my favourite fish.  This fish shop was extremely busy the line was 2 and out the door.

For those that love to live by the sea the 3 above photos is your view because there are houses behind me.

Down where we had a picnic this the water park for the children and of course adults to stand under and get cool.

Birds of Bowen, Queensland

Now if you saw a bird or watched a bird go on it's side then upside down as in feet in the air and laying on it's back, you might think, Oh it died!  Well that's exactly what we thought when having a picnic lunch by the water near the first caravan park we stayed in in Bowen and saw this bird.

The above bird don't know it's name either, there is a also a blue one.

Flagstaff Hill, Bowen

Good views from Flagstaff Hill in Bowen. Views from Rose Bay, along the expanse of Kings Beach, across to the lighthouse on North Head Island, Stony Island, Gloucester Island back to the Marina, and across town, you will feel like you're on top of the world. Binoculars and a look-out tower ensure the best view in the Whitsundays.

Black and White in Bowen, Queensland.

First evening in Bowen in Queensland we headed to a Marina, it was a lovely still evening so we sat on a seat and watch the sun go down.

To Bowen, Queensland.

In Winter 2017 we headed to Bowen a long way from home.  The winter weather was warmer than usual so we decided to stay for a few weeks and not go further north because we had come far enough north for warm weather having been to Townsville the year before.

Bowen is known for the wind but we didn't encounter much at all.
Most women were wearing shorts and some wore sundresses/frocks the men wore shorts and of course there are our 'thongs', those things you wear on your feet!

 We went up on the lookout only to discover one couldn't see that much for the trees, however, we did see another caravan park that looked good not far from a beach so we headed down and booked for a week there.
