Those storms are truly vicious. Obviously a lot of rebuilding still to be done. I don't know what the insurance regulations are like in Queensland but in most parts of North America (if not all) where hurricanes and tornadoes are regular weather features your insurance has to be very specific in terms of its coverage, and even then the insurance company will try to find any loophole to avoid paying out. Floods and wildfires are also getting to be deadly annual events and I know that we just upgraded our insurance accordingly.
Seeing your photos now, it is hard to believe that when they were taken 3-4 months after the cyclone that houses are still in that condition. I would have thought they would have been demolished quite quickly from a safety point of view.

Cyclones are dreadful and I certainly wouldn't like to be in one.

ReplyDeleteInsurance would be the key issue I expect, or if no insurance maybe the people can't afford to remove the remains.
