Jetty, Port Arthur and Pirates Bay

Just before we got to the Caravan Park at Port Arthur we saw a sign to the Jetty, so one day we ventured in to have a look then we drove to Eagle Hawke Neck to view Pirates Bay.

Pirates Bay at Eaglehawk Neck below.
Pirates Bay has been known by the same name for 200 years but only now have historians uncovered the story of the convict pirates who gave the Tasmanian inlet its name.

Hervey Bay Beaches, Queensland.

First photo from Gatakers Bay as I forgot to add it last time.

On the way back to the caravan park in winter 2019 we came across the Ferris wheel with it's colourful lights just turned on.  It was school holidays so hence the Ferris wheel.

Below the beach in front of the caravan park looking both ways. So a few steps from the caravan to the beach.

It appears that some of my photos have gone from the blog - they might reappear, well hopefully they do as I didn't remove them.  Must be blogspot-Google gone mad!...lol

Continuing on a day trip we called into Squeaking Point which is a small town attached to Port Sorell, and Hawley.
Two women were fishing from the jetty.

Southport, Tasmania

Continuing to drive further south from Huonville we came across Southport which is below Dover here in Tasmania.

Southport these days is more a holiday village and fishing area for the locals of which there are about 135 people.  Many holiday homes are located along the foreshore and certainly not over crowded.
Further south is Cockle Creek which is as far as one can go in a vehicle in Tasmania, of course there are walking tracks to the end of the Island.
Once shore based whaling took place at Southport.

Photos are of Southport as we drove along the road taken from various places, it was trying to rain but it didn't.

Hervey Bay, Queensland.

From Rockhampton we ventured down to Hervey Bay to stop for several days Winter 2016.

Harvey Bay, Queensland, a coastal city in southern Queensland, is widely known as a site for observing humpback whales. Whale-watching boats operate during the July to November migration season. It's also a hub for tours to nearby Fraser Island, which has beaches and features a rainforest habitat for dingoes and other wildlife. A waterfront esplanade links the city's marina with beaches offering calm waters for swimming.

Urangan Pier is 868 meters long original length was 1124 meters was used to export Steam, Sugar and Coal in 1917.  In the 1980's all exports stopped from this pier.  The pier was threatened with demolition but it was saved! The pier was leased to the Harvey Bay Council for protection.

Many people we saw walking their dogs along the beach.
Photo below is of Terry Summers born in 1929 in England and is singing The Fisherman's Song.. a statue of him 'Duet' it's called.
Have no idea who Terry Summers was as I can't find any history about him.

Opposite the pier is a lovely lawned area and Cafe.
Hervey Bay has certainly been cleaned up since our last visit.

The Patrol Boat

Discovered a boat ramp at Lucinda, up around the corner and down the road.
Hinchinbrook Island in the distance.
The town of Ingham a population of about 4.700 people is not that far from Lucinda thus providing the town with a supermarket and plenty of shopping.

That's a Patrol Boat checking peoples fish that they caught.

He's coming in after fishing, there is a jetty and a walkway to his house.

Found this photo of the end of the long jetty where the ships are and load the sugar.

Our stay at Lucinda, Queensland.

Our stay at Lucinda was most enjoyable as we hadn't been there before, so there were scenes to discover and noises we hadn't heard of before.
It was a busy Caravan Park and one had to book before arriving to make sure there was a place to park the caravan.  Many people come to Lucinda for fishing in the Australian Winter, and some for just a holiday or both.
There is only one shop which sells great fish n chips among other things.
Plenty of nice houses for sale but of course over priced and being a very small place there wasn't a great deal for locals to do.

In the night we heard this screaming and it sounded like a woman in trouble, so imagine several of these Bush Curlew birds screaming - this video I found on Youtube and it goes for a couple of minutes so you can hear the scream.

A bit more of the Lucinda Jetty, and the blue is to help keep out the sea creatures from this part of the beach.

Above the ever saving Vinegar if one gets stung by a sea creature, and of course swim at your own risk.

Streaky Bay (2)

After the rain stopped we ventured out and took a few photos of Streaky Bay.

Same jetty and the Council keep the grass/lawn immaculate.

Streaky Bay is a little hilly in some places.  This is one of the Hotels.
