The Great Lake, Tasmania.

The Great Lake is a natural lake and man-made reservoir that is located in the central northern region of Tasmania, Australia.

Area: 114 km² Surface elevation: 1,030 m

Length: 22 km

Catchment area: 399 km²

Year built: 1967

Outflow location: Shannon River

Town: Miena

We ventured up to the lake and surrounding areas on Sunday to see how low the water level was.  The lake supplies water for some of the Hydro Power to Tasmanian's.

The lake is very low for this time of year. 

In the photos you will see where the normal level is expected to be.

Going up the hill to the top of the mountain, then it plateaus out.

In Winter is may snow but the snow is gone in a day or three.

The view looking down used to be magnificent but the trees have grown blocking it now.

It's Autumn and Winter is not far away.

All trees remain the same as in the photo in Autumn and Winter.

There is only one delicious tree in Tasmania, so therefore it changes colour in Autumn, and that tree is not a large one and is found in another area of our Island.

Any Autumn colours in the leaves of trees are not native to Tasmania and have been planted by settlers, past and present.

The Caravan Park and View.

Wynyard in Tasmania is a quite small town, it's very clean and friendly as many small towns are.
We have taken the caravan there a few times to a caravan park where the lawns are immaculate.  The owner has great pride in his lawns, it's a pleasure to stop there right next to the beach.

Wynyard had an urban population of 5,061and a total greater population of 5,990
The largest employer in the town is the dairy processing plant, owned by the New Zealand company Fonterra.

Anzac Day

A special day today, it's called ANZAC DAY

Australia and New Zealand Army Corps.

Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served." Observed on 25 April each year, Anzac Day was originally to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli against the Ottoman Empire during World War I.
Anzac Day is also observed in the Cook Islands, Niue, Pitcairn Islands, and Tonga, and previously also as a national holiday in Papua New Guinea and Samoa.

About the Garden

We are redoing part of our garden out the front of the house.  Planted little lavenders which will make a lovely boarder.  More plants will be planted behind them eventually of a different kind.

Four Corners of Ross.

Ross is a town in the 'Midlands of Tasmania'. These autumn photos were taken last Autumn.

The town is centred on the crossroads of Church and Bridge Streets with a field gun from the Boer War and a war memorial as a central part of the intersection. The crossroads area is humorously referred to as the "Four Corners of Ross" with each corner having a label:

1. Temptation.  Man O'Ross Hotel (2nd photo)
2.  Recreation. Town Hall (3rd photo)
3. Salvation.   Roman Catholic Church (4th photo)
4. Damnation.   Jail, now a private residency. (Can be seen opposite the Church)

Apollo Bay, Victoria.

The last night before embarking on The Spirit of Tasmania, to home the next day - leaving Melbourne on the September 15, arriving in Devonport, Tasmania on September 16, 2015.

Thank you all for following our 3 months travel last year through various terrains in Australia.
This year, 2016 we will be heading to Cairns on the East Coast of Australia taking 4 months holiday.

The Twelve Apostles, Victoria

Along the Great Ocean Road in the State of Victoria we headed to see the Twelve Apostles a popular tourist area.  The weather was warm for early spring in September 2015.
A lady asked if we would like out photo taken, so we didn't refuse.  

A couple of the 'Stacks' have collapsed over time.

Not far from the Apostles there is a large visitors centre and nearby helicopter rides along part of the coast.  I took the below photo as we were on the move as was the helicopter.

London Bridge, Great Ocean Road, Victoria

London Arch is an offshore natural arch formation in the Port Campbell National Park, Australia. The arch is a significant tourist attraction along the Great Ocean Road near Port Campbell in Victoria.

The span closer to the shoreline collapsed unexpectedly on 15 January 1990, leaving two tourists (Kelli Harrison and Davis Darrington) stranded on the outer span before being rescued by helicopter.
No one was injured in the event.  Prior to the collapse, the arch was known as London Bridge because of it's similarity to it's namesake.

Computers, one goes it seems, they all 'go'!

Bought a new tower computer Friday, my old one was giving me trouble and when all said and done it was 6 years old!  So a new keyboard as the old one was 12 years old!
Recently I purchased a new laptop.
My husbands old mobile phone wouldn't turn on, so a new mobile phone for him.  Then, for a few dollars the phone company were giving away a 'Tablet' 8", so that wasn't to be sneezed at either.  
Then to top that off, his laptop hard drive gave up the ghost, so a new one was inserted and all seems well.


We headed along the Great Ocean Road towards Melbourne last November, 2015.
The Great Ocean Road is about 243 kls long  and was built by returned soldiers between 1919 and 1932 and is dedicated to soldiers killed during World War 1.
The road is the world's largest war memorial.  It winds through varying terrain along the coast and providing access to several prominent landmarks.

We have a view of Bass Strait, Indian Ocean and the Southern Ocean.
The winds would be very cold at times in this area.
Along the road there are signs to tell travellers there is a look out.

Limestone rocks, Great Ocean Road, Victoria.

The soft limestone rock of the coast began forming about 10 to 15 million years ago when this coastline was under the sea.
Cliffs are formed when the sea undercuts the edge of the land causing it to collapse.  Harder blocks remain as stacks white the coast continues to erode away.

Cottages of Port Fairy, Victoria.

Last post on Port Fairy in 2015.
The cottages of Port Fairy are well looked after, just like the town itself.  Clean and tidy.
These cottages were built many years ago, some now have been renovated for personal use, done to today's standards.  Some cottages are used as Accommodations houses.
