Last post on Port Fairy in 2015.
The cottages of Port Fairy are well looked after, just like the town itself. Clean and tidy.
These cottages were built many years ago, some now have been renovated for personal use, done to today's standards. Some cottages are used as Accommodations houses.
I have chosen just a few to show you.
Charming pictures. I love the purple plant in the last pic.
ReplyDeleteYes it's lovely.
DeleteMy favourite is the first photo with a nice fence
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely cottage and it appealed to me.
DeleteExcellent makeover, thanks for sharing. I love the first one :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely cottage.
DeleteThey do look great, each one with its own character.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
True and there are many more similar.
Deleteah, casual living
ReplyDeleteCertainly not a bustle of activity but in summer there would be.
DeleteThey are all pretty cottages in their different ways
ReplyDeleteThey are Rosemary, there are many which are normal home in Port Fairy.
DeleteReally charming cottages, Margaret!
ReplyDeleteWould have been good if I had known someone there and visited inside their cottage to see what it was like.
DeleteNice variety! I like the first one best.
ReplyDeleteMe too
DeleteThe last one is a bit strange with the light stone and the front and bluestone at the rear. Great to see they are preserved, adapted and used.
ReplyDeleteI reckon the one you are talking about has been added two, so hence the different colour stone.
DeleteAll the cottages we saw were well looked after, which is good.
I think that the older style buildings have, on the whole, MUCH more charm than their modern replacements. I suspect they last better too.
ReplyDeleteThere is just something about the old houses/cottages, they are different and remind me of the cottage my mother's parents lived in.
Deletelovely, thank you appreciate this
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome.
DeleteCertainly well maintained.
ReplyDeleteI should think if not used on a permanent basis for accommodation by the owner, then either as a rented holiday cottage (summer rates would be high, even winter rates would not be that cheap).
I do recall on my short visit way back that some of those coastal Victorian townships were so well maintained - a source of town pride.
Thankfully most of country Australian towns are well maintained with an amazing civic pride.
Well graffiti vandals would be soon snuffed out and dealt with.
I can think of a couple of non-civic pride exceptions - I'm bloody sure Margaret and Shanks would have an idea of the very few 'exceptions' with all their Aussie travels.
Colin
These cottages I have shown are private cottages where by they are peoples homes.
DeleteTo rent a cottage which is similar to a motel, the cost I believe ranges from $200 onwards, depending on where the cottage is etc.
Didn't see any graffiti at all, and certainly pride in the town is evident.
Very good constructions, for enjoy of good holidays.
ReplyDeleteKisses
Well they are still standing after all these years - good building in the beginning and restorations have been kind too.
DeleteI do like
ReplyDelete:)
Deletearen't they picturesque and well tended. charming. hope you are well Margaret
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely, The streets are clean and tidy.
DeleteYes doing ok, thanks as I hope you are too.
They are beautifully maintained and would make super holiday houses as you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteDidn't see one cottage or house that wasn't in top condition.
DeleteThose cottages are lovely. I could easily and comfortably live in one of those full-time...forget just for a holiday stay!
ReplyDeleteBe nice to live there, but not for me :) Having travelled within our land far and wide, there is one place that I could live for about one year, and that is Broome, WA.
DeleteThey're beautiful! If those walls could talk eh?
ReplyDeleteOh yes, so many stories to tell..
DeleteThey look nice. Great places to stay.
ReplyDeleteThese cottages are private houses. Be great to stay in a bed and breakfast cottage.
DeleteLooks nice! Beautiful flowers too
ReplyDeleteVery pretty
DeleteI would like to stay there and look at Fairy-wrens from my window.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you would attract them :)
DeleteI'm impressed by the beauty of these houses ! a place where it seems life is good !
ReplyDeleteLife would be good there, it was when we visited.
DeleteThe cottages are just lovely... oh to stay in one for a few days would be magic.
ReplyDeleteI guess you would enjoy that away from the farm :)
DeleteThose gardens look so lush. I'm envious - I really wish I had a green thumb.
ReplyDeleteThe gardens do look gorgeous.
DeleteAlas, I suppose I am still not mature enough to not grimace at a name like Fort Fairy. Better than laughing out loud--huh? Sorry.
