Cottages of Port Fairy, Victoria.

Last post on Port Fairy in 2015.
The cottages of Port Fairy are well looked after, just like the town itself.  Clean and tidy.
These cottages were built many years ago, some now have been renovated for personal use, done to today's standards.  Some cottages are used as Accommodations houses.
I have chosen just a few to show you.

    1. Would have been good if I had known someone there and visited inside their cottage to see what it was like.

  9. The last one is a bit strange with the light stone and the front and bluestone at the rear. Great to see they are preserved, adapted and used.

    1. I reckon the one you are talking about has been added two, so hence the different colour stone.
All the cottages we saw were well looked after, which is good.

  10. I think that the older style buildings have, on the whole, MUCH more charm than their modern replacements. I suspect they last better too.

    1. There is just something about the old houses/cottages, they are different and remind me of the cottage my mother's parents lived in.

  12. Certainly well maintained.
I should think if not used on a permanent basis for accommodation by the owner, then either as a rented holiday cottage (summer rates would be high, even winter rates would not be that cheap).
I do recall on my short visit way back that some of those coastal Victorian townships were so well maintained - a source of town pride.
Thankfully most of country Australian towns are well maintained with an amazing civic pride.
Well graffiti vandals would be soon snuffed out and dealt with.

I can think of a couple of non-civic pride exceptions - I'm bloody sure Margaret and Shanks would have an idea of the very few 'exceptions' with all their Aussie travels.

    1. These cottages I have shown are private cottages where by they are peoples homes.
To rent a cottage which is similar to a motel, the cost I believe ranges from $200 onwards, depending on where the cottage is etc.

Didn't see any graffiti at all, and certainly pride in the town is evident.

    1. Be nice to live there, but not for me :) Having travelled within our land far and wide, there is one place that I could live for about one year, and that is Broome, WA.

  23. Alas, I suppose I am still not mature enough to not grimace at a name like Fort Fairy. Better than laughing out loud--huh? Sorry.
