It's green in Gilgandra, NSW

One of the days whilst in Gilgandra the temperature reached 35 deg C so we headed to a park mid afternoon taking a drink with us.  We had never been to this particular park before and it's next door to the children's playground and swimming pool.  We sat there for ages sitting of the seats that were provided under the shade of the big trees.

Moving south to Gilgandra, NSW

Headed to Gilgandra to stop a few nights.  It was 29 deg C in mid October Monday 14, 2019 when we arrived.  We drove around in our vehicle for awhile each day, that way we could keep cooler.
These photos just a small part of the scenery near the town.
We have stayed in Gilgandra before and a post of some of the town is here.

The house above just there in the paddock with no shelter just a few trees and some distance from the highway.

The Pilliga NSW

After leaving Narrabri, NSW we headed south to Gilgandra, NSW,
Along the way we had a rest in the Pilliga area which is also a National Park, no we didn't venture into the park as walking a fair distance is out of the question as we are past that!

The photos above and below are of the rest area where we got out and stretched out legs and had a walkabout.

Heading towards another town Coonabarrabran which we have stayed in for a few days in the past.
It's a lovely area coming through the mountains and hills.  There is a Telescope up on a mountain which we visited a few years ago. Siding Spring Telescope it's called and in the Warrumbungle National Park where there were bushfires a few years ago, as you can see the trees have regenerated...

The town clock in the middle of the roundabout the main street plus it's the Highway.
Below is the Visitors Information Centre which was another rest stop for us back in winter 2019.

The Pilliga NSW is that area with the red around it.

Gilgandera, NSW

Gilgandera is situated in the central west of NSW, Australia. The town has a population of about 2,700 people with more living in the district.

Gilgandra is known as the town of Windmills and Home of the Coo-ees. Until 1966 the town did not have a central water supply and most people in the town had a windmill. At one point the skyline of the township was dominated with approximately 360 Windmills.

The home of the Coo-ee refers to the march of 35 men from Gilgandra to Sydney in 1915 to volunteer for the war. By the time they reached Sydney their numbers had swelled to 263 making the 1915 Coo-ee March from Gilgandra to Sydney the first and most successful recruitment march of World War 1

A farming district, canola, wheat, and so on and of course sheep among other animals.

We always call into the Visitors Center to stop for a break from driving, walk around the grounds and have a chat to the staff at the center.

My other post on Gilgandera [ here ]

This plant is known by a common name of Black Boy.  These days it's not referred to it by that name, but I don't know the correct name.

The back of the Visitors Center which has barbecues, and a large area of grass with a river with not much water in it.

Gilgandra, New South Wales

On our way home we stopped at a lovely Motel in Gilgandra up on a hill.  It's owned by an Indian couple, rooms are lovely and clean and the wife cooks a mean meal which was delivered to our motel room.
Gilgandra is about 460km west of Sydney and has a population of well over 2,600 people.
There is a new IGA Supermarket which we visited and it would put many a large supermarket in the city to shame.

Part of the shopping area

The IGA Supermarket has moved from here...and due to sun being in the wrong position no photo of the new IGA

A field day for some who like looking in Antique Shops.

A Mural of the men who went to war.
