Mine was no big deal, well not to me it wasn't.
It happened at Cape Tribulation.
Took the photo below put the lens back on my camera, took a few steps as we do, next thing I was flat on my face, forgot to pick my feet up, well, it happens.
Thought what have I done, had a stinging face and nose.
Damage....
Sunglasses deeply scratched and they had dug into my nose which cut it between my eyes.
Deep cuts over and around my nose.
Two cuts inside my lip which my teeth did.
Deep cut from my lip to my nose.
Left arm a lot of skin off.
Left knee cut in many places with gravel in them and same for arm.
Left hand cut on the top.
Left thumb hurt.
Broken nose.
Hole in trousers.
Lens of camera broken.
No other bones were broken or damaged.
I consider myself extremely lucky because all kinds of things could have happened - who knows a crocodile could have been near :)
Took 1 hour to get to the barge to across the Daintree River, then I can't recall how far it was drive to the Emergency Department of the nearest Hospital.
Didn't really need to go there I thought, expect to have a Tetanus injection.
Anyway I was treated immediately by 4 Dr.'s and I do believe they had not much to do.
Having been in Charge of an Emergency Department when Nursing I wasn't fazed by it all, just took it in my stride. When all said and done I had seen worse, much worse.
So moved on.
A trip a week later to the camera store in Cairns Central to buy a new lens for my Nikon DSLR D7100camera.
Oh no! You are not the only one. I was walking through tall grass with my camera strapped around my neck and my folded tripod in my right hand. My feet got tangled up in the grass and I fell with my right knee landing on the tripod breaking it. Had a sore knee for two weeks and had to buy a new tripod. Your adventure makes mine look like a picnic. I hope everything heals up on you soon.

Oh goodness, sounds nasty ... but yes, it could have been worse!

DeleteSigh. All too familiar. Putting out our recycling bin I overbalanced and planted my face in the road. Much blood. Many bruises. And a lucky escape from worse injuries, despite the scar on my lip I carry.

DeleteThat could have been so much worse - you could have broken some bones rather than the camera lens. We really should be extra careful as we get older, but as I know only too well it is easily done.

DeleteI picked my feet up more now - am conscious of doing that.
Oh dear me! is right. Too bad about your camera but all the rest will heal...eventually. I'm sure you had a lot of pain after and I hope you heal quickly and enjoy the trip and your new camera lens.

tropical creeks. That place looks ideal for wild pig hiding, "Joe

Ouch! I'm surprised I'm still living with how clumsy I am. Glad to hear there was no permanent damage.

DeleteOuch.... When things like that happen to me, my first thought is what a silly person I am for having gotten into that mess! I'm so sorry that this happened to you, but I'm glad the worst of it seems to be a brand new shiny lens. Feel better. And thanks for the nice comment on my "water color" duck.

I didn't even think about how stupid I must have looked, that was probably due to where I fell as there was no one around till after I fell then people came rushing.
Ouch!! That is quite a list of injuries. I would imagine you would have been very black and blue for a few days.
ReplyDeleteSounds worse than it was really. Had a few bruises and lots of swelling around the eyes, mouth and cheeks but was not too bad. Was better in a week.

Thank you Sandra - took a week to come right as in healed. Broken nose took longer and that was very sore for weeks.

was on flat cement next slab was a wee bit higher, i tripped on rise.

DeleteSometimes, so absorbed, with the camera, you do not realize the step you take, and this can cost you face, it is best to walk down the road and stop in a safe place to make the shot ... .Some time than another, I stumbled, but fortunately, without falling.

ReplyDeleteNursing skills were very handy actually, it teaches many things and one is to stay calm and quiet. It was very painful but I soon got over that.
