Bribie Island is about 1 and half hour drive north of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. There are approximately 20,000 permanent residents and up to additional 1,100 people at any one time visit the Island.
Lovely beaches, a few having shallow waters, good weather, wildlife, surfing and fishing attract people there in the winter in truth anytime of the year. We've been there a few times just on day trips from the Sunshine Coast when on holidays.
The Island is 34 km long and 8 km wide.
There is a National Park and Recreational Centre, where you will find Kangaroos, Wallabies, Emus, various Snake species, green tree Frogs, Dingos can often be seen venturing from the National Park into the surrounding suburbs.
There is a story about a man called Josh Taylor who was at a beach campground on Bribie Island when he fell into a hole that had been reportedly dug to roast a pig. Mr. Taylor was airlifted to hospital shortly after the incident but succumbed to his injuries, which means he died.
He fell into the hole when he stumbled and overbalanced as he got out of a chair, with his flailing arms bringing down it's walls on top on him. He was buried headfirst, with his ankles only barely visible to the rescuers, who tried to pull him out after their attempts to dig him out failed. This sad event happened in 2023.
Bribie Island has no cemetery; however, two people have been buried on the Island one back in 1920 and the other in 1935.

ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely place, Anne.
DeleteBeautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour with you.
I wish you a nice Monday and a happy week.
Viola
Thank you, Viola.
DeleteMy partner's family (Brisbaneites) often go to Bribie Island and love it.
ReplyDeleteI can understand why they go there EC.
DeleteCon tus explicaciones y con las buenas vistas que acabo de ver, en tus fotografías, me ha entrado ganas de estar ahí.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
Thank you, it makes you want to walk thee beaches there.
DeleteSchöne Bilder vom Strand und vom Meer.
ReplyDeleteGruß
Noke
Thank you Noke.
DeleteBribe Island sounds like a very picturesque place, especially when I see those lovely photos. Thank you Margaret, for the map and for the photos.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Denise, and thank you.
DeleteLooks idyllic without hordes of people.
ReplyDeleteWasn't the brightest of days that day so hence no people on the beach, David.
DeleteIt does look like a really nice beach. Interesting that two people are buried there.
ReplyDeleteYes, also interesting that there isn't a graveyard there but there is one not too far away.
DeleteNice to see a beach so empty and clean!
ReplyDeleteWas very clean Angie, most it not all our beaches are thank goodness.
DeleteA nice and quiet beach perfect for an enjoyable stroll.
ReplyDeleteBe lovely walking along there Bill, we did do that at the time and thoroughly enjoyed it.
DeleteSo people have to be buried outside the island
ReplyDeleteApparently however there is a Memorial in the northern part of the Island, but I didn't see any graves as such...a place for ashes, yes.
DeleteThe beach and pier look deserted in your current photos. But it won't be long before summer weather starts :)
ReplyDeleteHardly any one there on that day Hels, weather wasn't the best, not windy but it was cloudy. I believe it gets very busy on the Island in school holidays.
DeleteEs una bella playa. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you JP.
DeleteNot somewhere I have ever been but somewhere I would like to go, maybe one day
ReplyDeleteOne day you may get there Jo-Anne.
DeleteSuch lovely views of the beach.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
It's a really nice area there Jan.
DeleteI haven't been there but a friend's sister used to live there and it sounded idyllic, although maybe not so nice in the summer weather.
ReplyDeleteA bit humid or very humid in the summer Andrew, would be nice to live there.
DeleteGreat place and has a good little pub with accommodation.
ReplyDeleteI have stayed there on quite a few occasions with mates from
Brisbane and I did live not that far away in Caloundra for about 4 years.
In summer the place is PACKED with campers.
I never saw any dingoes there - will the 4 legged variety!
Cheers
Colin
PS: Lovely sunny day here and the beaches here are getting packed.
The expensive cafes/restaurants - (exorberent) with extra fees attached if you use a card.
I don't know how they get away with it.
Oh yes - the top photo.
DeleteIf you turn left on the beach and walk the Caloundra way, you can see in the distance, there is the nudist area!!! ha ha.
Nothing like an all over tan !!!!!
Colin
I see, a nudist beach, we walked that way at the times but no one there, maybe we frightened them away on that cloudy day, Colin. Well you would know more than I would re Bribie Island and we didn't see any Dingoes there either, they never came out of the bush.
DeleteQuiet place to visit, it's a unique place because there is no grave here...I'm so sorry to hear about Mr Taylor's news...RIP him
ReplyDeleteSad tale about Mr. Taylor and only so recently too.
DeleteI've been there, but long ago in February 1975, we lived in Brisbane at the time and took a day trip with friends, the beach was quite crowded and one unfortunate young man was stung by a blue ring octopus and the ambulance was called. It was my daughter's second birthday and the very next day her brother was born.
ReplyDeleteThat's nasty being stung by a blue ring octopus, dangerous creature in the sea at time if we humans are in the wrong place.
DeleteOh, so you remember the great happiness and what happened the day before, R.
Beautiful island with beautiful beach and views.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad story of that mister Josh Taylor.
I wish you a beautiful new week.
Greetings Irma
Thank you Irma. Very sad regarding Josh Taylor.
DeleteThat will have to do for my beach fix for quite a while--- Great pictures, though!
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill. Coming up winter where you are and probably not a good place to be at the beach.
DeleteA quiet and wonderful place.
ReplyDeleteSince there is no cemetery, it is curious that there are two people buried there.
Great photos ❤️
Yes it is strange but there is a cemetery not very far away.
DeleteI don't know why two people were buried there, can't seem to find out.
So fascinating.
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteQuerida amiga, preciosas fotografías, unas playas bien bonitas, ideal para caminar de la mano de un amor.
ReplyDeleteAbrazos y besitos, te deseo un feliz inicio de semana
Thank you Liz.
DeleteHello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice and quiet place.
Fantastic pictures.
Greetings, Marco
Thank you, Marco.
DeleteImagenes bellas de esa playa idilica.
ReplyDeleteYes, Ildefonso, I found both your comments in the 'trash', I always check it everyday before I answer comments. Thank you.😎
DeleteFascinante la historia que relatas, y las imágenes bellísimas, ha sido un placer leerte. Besos
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed.
DeleteThe island looks beautiful, a paradise to visit and enjoy, Mr. Taylor's a tragedy
ReplyDeleteBest regards
Yes a tragic story of Mr. Taylor and I wonder had he been drinking alcohol that made him a bit tipsy.
DeleteI've only ever been to Bribie Island once...back in the 60s. I don't know why I never visited again...I was more a Sunshine Coast person...and lived there, also, for a few years. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I can understand you not going back to Bribie, more happening for a young person on the Sunshine Coast, Lee.
DeleteUma publicação de contornos trágicos, mas com imagens de uma natureza apelativa.
ReplyDeleteAbraço de amizade.
Juvenal Nunes
Yes a sad story of Mr. Taylor.
