This suspension walking bridge is at Deloraine and was built in 1898 but obviously updated since then. This the Meander River which used to flood in areas of it but it's been a long time since that happened.
The building was built in 1907, it housed two turbine, a 19 H.P. Gunter and a 45" Samson. The concrete weir across the river, and a diverting channel under a portion of the building, were all part of the complex.
The Wattle is still out and photos taken from the suspension bridge.
I like the suspension walking bridge, I used to walk over one everyday on my way to work. Nice views of the river. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteQuaint town is Deloraine. I believe many people use this bridge as you would have done with your suspension one.
DeleteTan solo en una vez tuve la ocasión de pasr por un puente colgante. ïbamos en una excursión de grupo en fila de a 1 y tenía verdadero terror de lo que se movía el dichoso puente.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo
Oh dear me, that does sound scary. This bridge didn't move as I walked across it.
DeleteNice river view! How long is this suspension walking bridge?
ReplyDeleteThat I don't know and couldn't and still can't find out for I was wondering the same, it only takes a few minutes to walk across so it's not a long one and it doesn't swing about either.
DeleteThat is simply gorgeous and must have been quite a feat of architecture when it was first built. Lovely views too.
ReplyDeleteWould have been a big task to build but it's solid and doesn't move about.
DeleteAll super photos Margaret and I especially loved those river scenes.
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise. Once there were more trees along that river that bend over into the water but to make the river flow better many of the trees have been removed over time.
DeleteI am always sad when trees are removed but from the sound of it, this was probably necessary, maybe to prevent flooding?
DeleteYes to help with the flooding Denise.
DeleteI liked these photos to me make to my childhood and a visit to Warragamba Dam which involved a walk across such a foot bridge but I didn't get very far as I am scared of open heights
ReplyDeleteOh are you. Well I like solid to walk on and heights are ok for me. That would have been lovely looking down over the Dam.
DeleteThat suspension bridge looks like a centipede.
ReplyDeleteYes it does, we all see different things, in things.
DeleteAdded to the list for our next visit. It looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteA must Andrew to visit, sweet place.
DeleteDoes the bridge swing in the wind?
ReplyDeleteThe one just near Finschaffen, New Guinea does.
Heaps of fun on it making it swing more over the Mape River
where MacArthur's started his drive north in WW2.
The river is full of sunken barges etc. but to swim there
to explore is suicidal with all the "not friendly crocodiles".
The Lutheran TB hospital is right next to the bridge
but now up river is a road bridge to the other Mission
schools and plantations.
The Japanese C-in-C had his HQ there in one of the old
Imperial Germany residences pre-WW1.
The area is riddled with history and to fly over in a small
plane taking goods etc to Patrol Posts is to behold with wonderment.
You see landing craft and submarines - Allied and Japanese,
these are not to be touched. I forget the word that is used. War graves???
Certainly brings back memories of my time in New Guinea.
I believe Diane Bohlen visited when in Lae and swam in the
Butawing water fall pool.
Thanks for the memories.
Cheers
Colin
Good to read your memories Colin, sounds very interesting. The bridge doesn't swing it's very solid, doesn't even sway a little.
DeleteBuenas imagenes de un espacio muy bello, amiga
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteBeautiful view of the river, I really like the walkway.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Irma
It's a lovely walk from way back down the river, a good path over the bridge and beyond..
DeleteI've been on the Golden Gate Bridge while it was swinging foot or two in the wind. Odd sensation, indeed. That little bridge is charming and steady. Your pictures always put me there.
ReplyDeleteWe have a swinging bridge at the Gorge here in Launceston that is not as stable as the one I have shown here, and it's a weird feeling as you say to walk on a bridge that appears to be stable but isn't. The bridge shown is very stable to walk on, well for me anyway.
DeleteUm rio espectacular.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e bom fim-de-semana.

It's a pretty river as the scenery along the way is nice..
DeleteWhat a gorgeous area! I think I can live without walking over the bridge though!
ReplyDeleteIt's stable David, you would be alright.
DeleteBeautiful view of the River. I would like to use that suspension walking bridge. It looks so cool. Greetings. Have a wonderful october to you and your family dear Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThank you and the same to you and your family.
DeleteIt's not far across the bridge.
Vistas maravillosas tomadas desde ese bonito puente colgante, debe ser mágico encontrarse en el lugar
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo
Also lovely view from the bridge in spring with more greenry about. It's enjoyable to see in reality.
DeleteWhat neat looking views of the bridge. Not sure I would be brave enough to walk across it!
ReplyDeleteIt's stable, doesn't move with others walking on it.
DeleteThe flooding and the bushfires have been appalling this year, and we are only in early spring. Do you think the Meander River, which used to flood, is in danger of flooding (or burning) this year?
ReplyDeleteHave seen the flooding on the TV new Hels. No, I don't think the Meander River will flood this year, it hasn't been flooded there for ages. I remember way back when I used to work at the Hospital at Deloraine the river used to flood. Bushfires, we will have some and have alread had one down near Friendly Beaches on the east coast, all is well there now.
DeleteMeraviglioso questo ponte pedonale sospeso sul fiume che permette di fare fotografie mozzafiato
ReplyDeleteOh that is so true Stafania, I remember when there wasn't a bridge over the river as in the photo.
DeleteI want to stand on the suspension bridge to watch the beautiful stream.
ReplyDeleteLovely listening to it, peaceful

ReplyDeleteLovely listening to the water Teresa. I don't mind walking over those bridges as you do the same.
DeleteLove the water falling over the weir.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice also good to listen to.
DeleteWhat an interesting and beautiful suspension bridge.
ReplyDeleteThe river and the surrounding landscape are fantastic!
It's lovely there Maria, called into there again yesterday on our way home from a 5-1/2 hour drive.
DeleteVery nice photo's. Amazing when you see things that have been around awhile. Love that it's been well maintained.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
Thank you Sandy, a good place to visit to see those tulips in such a large area.
DeleteBeautiful landscapes, nice bridge, a similar pedestrian one I have very close and on the Guadalquivir River, looking felt the feeling that gives to be arribea and contemplate the landscape.

DeleteNice place, there used to be an old footbridge in my place, of which there is no trace anymore, but I have photos of it and I'm glad that the memory of it has been preserved. Photos from the footbridge - beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh that's wonderful you do have photos of that footbridge. I have photos of things that are not there anymore, and it's satisfying.
Deletei revisited the post as looking at water containing images is therapeutic ,beautifully captured !
