Trevally Dam

Trevallyn Dam and Lake Trevallyn is a concrete gravity dam built on Dolerite bedrock.  The spillway height is 26.8 meters and the dam wall is 177 meters long.  The lake has a surface area of 1.48 km and storage capacity of 12.33 million m3.  Height of the dam wall is 33 metres and the total volume of the wall 61,000 cubic metres.  It various at times depends on who did the measuring.

Photo taken just the other day..

A video which is in MP4 format goes for about 30 seconds...hope it can be viewed.  There is a voice 3/4 the way through as someone is bound to say something when you are taking a video!

A picnic area with daffodils and shelter in the ground where the dam is.

Two photos from a winding road within Launceston which is not used very much, so a view towards the Tamar River for the one above and below the view of the outer area of Launceston on a rainy day.

  4. The water leading up to the dam is so smooth, it reminds me of vinyl. Beautiful captures, I enjoyed the sound of the water in the video.

    1. Yes it is and from memory there is a far bit of dirt at the bottom of the dam so with the force of the water it mixes.

  9. All the dams are very full. This one is no exception! I can see the concrete bit that stands out in design. Love the shed nearby.

    1. Good views from that area Andrew, but you really can't see the houses that look over the river there before the water reaches the dam wall.

    1. It does Rosemary and a lot of water flowing over rather gently till it hits the bottom, can recall the water spraying up at the bottom on one of the trip to the dam.

  13. I think that if there was a wild river anywhere in the world humans would put a dam on it. All over North America, especially in the west, they are now being removed in an attempt to remediate the environmental damage they have caused.

    1. Oh are they indeed over your way. Our dams are not causing much of a problem so I am to believe at this stage.

  18. How beautiful and what a joy to see a dam with that amount of water, here the swamps that have more water now with the drought does not reach 25% of its capacity.
The other day I saw on TV a beach in Tasmania that some whales had been stranded and the work to be able to take them back to the sea.
    Best regards.

    1. Amazing you saw those whales on your TV, yes sad occasion when so many whales beach themselves, most died they the people only managed to save a few. It's a beautiful beach where they beached themselves and it's very long. When I was a teenager just, I used to be driven on the sand all the way down that beach by the Policeman who used to patrol it. Lucky me, my was also a Policeman and they were friends living in different towns.
