Went shopping on Monday and in the carpark garden we came across this Plover who is nesting there.
Photo taken with my phone and I couldn't get close because the plover would get angry.
Plovers are a protected species in Tasmania where I live. More to read about the Plover
Interesting place for nesting. Hopefully everything goes well.
ReplyDeleteSo hope so Sussi.
DeleteThis is a first time that I have ever seen a plover. It looks so cute!
ReplyDeleteThey are a very protective bird.
DeleteThat doesn't even look real!
ReplyDeleteIt is real, plovers just nest anywhere, in the middle of a paddock where a farmer is prowling for instance.
DeleteLindo e bem apanhado.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e um Bom Setembro.

Thanks. The bird didn’t have a choice, it just sat there looking at me whilst I took it’s photo.
DeleteNever seen a Plover before. A very nice bird.
ReplyDeleteThey are nice, I like the yellow on it.
DeleteI had never seen this bird, how beautiful it is.
ReplyDeleteSure is nice to admire Maria.
DeletePor lo menos, no ha salido huyendo y le has podido sacar una foto. No había visto nunca esta ave y me parece muy bien, que esté protegida, en su país.
ReplyDeleteBesos
I reckon I would have been attacked by the plover if I had gone closer.
DeleteWhat an interesting bird. I think that is a Masked Plover/Lapwing with that strange yellow mask over its face.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct Rosemary.
DeleteА она точно там гнездится?
ReplyDeleteМожет просто села отдохнуть?
She nested there. Plovers will nest anywhere on soil or low grass, in graveyards, football ovals as an example.
DeleteInteresting face, nothing like our plovers here. Ours lay their eggs and hatch chicks on pebbly ground rather than a nice soft nest. I wonder if yours do, too.
ReplyDeleteOur nest on dirt, soft places not like your plovers.
DeleteI am glad that they are protected. I would get angry too if uninvited people came to gawk at my nest. Love your photo though.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Always good to know they are protected, that way hopefully we will continue to have them.
DeleteSo nice
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo-Anne.
DeleteIt seems they can be seen here but I haven't seen one. Ours of concern is the hooded plover that nests at beaches and is under threat from dogs etc. Nesting time sees many beaches patrolled by volunteers to protect the nesting sites.
ReplyDeleteOh really, that’s interesting.
DeleteThe only plovers i have ever seen were nesting in beach areas. This one apparently wasn't too selective in its choice.
ReplyDeleteOur plovers are not like your it seems being a different species. Ours nest on short grass, fields, football ovals, car parks on soil just anywhere like that.
DeleteI have great memories of these birds. Looks like plastic cutlery and a cigarette butt next to the nest. Ah, we humans are so great, aren't we?
ReplyDeleteHa, definitely a plastic fork which will be banned eventually…the butt, well it’s obviously been thrown on the ground instead of butting it out in their car ashtray.
DeleteIt’s a new car park too.
That's a cosy "nest"! Smart bird. :)
ReplyDeleteEvery now and then plovers can be heard around here...They and the curlews always remind me of when I was a kid and the many times we spent at Tin Can Bay. It's a long time since I've seen or heard a curlew.
They sure have a distinctive call the plovers. First time I heard a curlew was in Lucinda, Qld in the middle of the night, we thought it was a women being attached, but it was the curlew.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful plover, strange place to breed.
ReplyDeleteThis species does not occur here in the Netherlands.
Greetings Irma
They sure do nest in odd places.
Deleteoh such a beautiful bird!Glad you did not scare it :)))
ReplyDeleteIt made a big noise as I got close to it so I didn't go any further.
DeleteI have never seen a plover before. Beautiful and interesting bird. Glad it is a protected bird.
ReplyDeleteNice coloured yellow has longisg legs as well.
DeleteInteresting place for nesting. Hopefully everything goes well.
ReplyDeleteI do hope all goes well for the plover too.
DeleteBellisimo el modo en que lo has captado, amiga
ReplyDeleteThank you, was lucky she looked at me.
DeleteNice plumage and colorful, very striking, good opportunity to take a photo and buy it.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Happy weekend.
Best regards
Thank you.
DeleteThe bird is beautiful. I have never watched this kind of plover before. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteThanks and you are welcome
Deletei am thankful they are in safe hands dear Margaret :)
ReplyDeletesuch pretty bird .he looks brave with no feeling of bothering by passers by :)
Fairly relaxed nesting there she was.
DeleteUn pájaro bonito e interesante, nunca lo había visto. Gracias y besos Margaret.
ReplyDeleteNot a bird that goes to your area Teresa as it's a native down here I believe.
DeleteAn unusual place to nest.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture though.
All the best Jan
For sure Jan, they just nest anywhere on dirt or short grass.
DeleteNever seen or hear a bird like this. Looks nice.
ReplyDeleteVery different they are.
