Rockhampton is in the Tropic of Capricorn, Australia.
This long trains goes across one of the main streets, so it's a long wait.
Transportable homes all stored in this holding yard till someone buys one. I found a link to some houses that are the original and restored. Link is [here]. I found these rather fascinating.
I have never heard of transportable homes.
ReplyDeleteGuess we could call them recyclable homes, not in every city or town though.
Deletepractical homes!
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Different.
DeleteI would hate to be the truck driver who has to drive those to a location. It happens here rarely, and it doesn't look fun
ReplyDeleteMany things to consider when moving houses, permits for the road, escort and so on..
Deletewow I have never seen transportable houses before
ReplyDeleteI suppose you could call it recycled housing.
DeleteAll kinds of interesting stuff in this post! The newspaper's piece on the train was great to see--- as well as your pictures. And having the houses ready to move--- as with the others, that's a new one on me! Also, while I'm not a total train buff, I was curious to see if the rail cars are like ours-- they are, mostly. Fun post!
ReplyDeleteThanks Bill.
DeleteThere are some rather good houses shown at the link.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased you went to that link Andrew, the houses have be so well done you wouldn't recognise some of them.
DeleteI think it's great the homes are being moved and reused rather than razed. Interesting that the train runs right down the street.
ReplyDeleteWe also have relocatable homes here in Tasmania, the homes not needed by the Hydro Commission towns some are moved but we don't see many.
DeleteParece que hay gran tráfico de trenes, en esa ciudad.
ReplyDeleteBesos
At times there is, and a long wait till the train has gone.
DeleteGreat photos of the trains.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob.
DeleteI watched the video. Very interesting.
ReplyDeletePleased you could watch, I found it interesting too.
DeleteA mind-bogglingly long train - and I'd not known there were 'house stores' anywhere. Fascinating!
ReplyDeleteThe train was long one didn't think it was ever going to finish.
DeleteThanks for calling and leaving a comment.
Portable homes are all over this area in Terrigal in the retirement estates.
ReplyDeleteSome are very large and quite palatial. The assembling of them is quick and fascinating.
You also find these homes in the mining areas for the mining workers and also on the large cattle properties (ranches for US viewers) for the stockmen.
The trains ( long ones ) are amusing to see in the main streets of some Qld country towns. Might be a deterrent to the young "hoons"???
I know the freight train would come off best in a collision - ha ha.
Good report as now is the norm, Margaret.
Cheers
Colin
Those old houses are good for anywhere, makes some one a nice home.
DeletePleased all is back to normal then..
The long house in the last picture looks a lot like the portable classrooms we had in school. If I had a block of land and a bit of cash, I'd buy one of those houses.
ReplyDeleteImage 6 in the restored homes looks very nice, I'd live in that quite happily.
ReplyDeleteThat one does look lovely River, nothing wrong with most of these restored homes at all.
DeleteThat one does look like a classroom and may have been used for one in the past.
Hello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteNice shots of this passing train.
So nice because I do the same work in the Netherlands. Driving these kind of cargo trains!!
Kind regards,
Marco

Deletewhat a great idea to recycle those old homes. i'd love to have one up in queensland somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThey look good all done up.
Deletei found the trains very interesting dear Margaret!
