Sometimes ships sing!

Continuing our holiday in 2016.  Thinking I'm only halfway through the places we visited in 2016, it won't be that long and we will cross the sea on the Spirit of Tasmania for another 3 and bit months away in our winter.  Later in June 2017.

Emu Park in Queensland is on the East Coast and is home of the famous Singing Ship Monument, it's not far from Rockhampton.

Emu Park was first discovered by Captain James Cook in 1770.  It overlooks the island of Keppel Bay, including the Great Keppel Island.  Emu Park is a popular tourist spot, and has won several tourism awards, and features fishing, surfing, boating, and unspoiled beaches.

We also visited Yeppoon and several other beaches along the way - no photos as the day was rather windy and nothing of great value to add.

The monument does sing/hums due to the wind.
Below a well built lookout.

    1. A struggle trying to walk in the strong wind, sometimes only if one has too.

    1. Thanks krishna :)
Fancy that then how you became interested in Tasmania.
David Boon was born and raised in the city I live in. He, his wife and his parents used to shop in our Garden Centre Nursery before David and wife moved to Hobart etc.
David would always stand aside and 'wait' till my husband was free to attend to him.

  5. Looks like a not so pleasant day from that murky surf.
I should think that the Singing Ship Monument would have been
in fine "voice" - Luciano Pavarotti, maybe????????????

    1. Was not too cold on that day, that was all it had going for it - though we did have some lovely barramundi and chips in a sheltered area outside at a restaurant.
The hum isn't that loud, but nothing like the 'voice'.

  11. My ex and I stayed at the caravan park in Emu Park, once (I wrote a post about this some time ago)...and as was my habit, as soon as we pulled in the first thing I did was go and check the toilet block to see if it was clean etc. Upon my exit from the inspection curious emus were waiting right at the door for me to exit....much to my surprise and much to the amusement of my ex!!! :)

    1. Yes every year River, not often we miss a year. Even when we didn't have a caravan we went in car to Queensland, mostly Sunshine Coast, once to and stayed 3 weeks at Port Douglas.
