Continuing our holiday in 2016. Thinking I'm only halfway through the places we visited in 2016, it won't be that long and we will cross the sea on the Spirit of Tasmania for another 3 and bit months away in our winter. Later in June 2017.
Emu Park in Queensland is on the East Coast and is home of the famous Singing Ship Monument, it's not far from Rockhampton.
Emu Park was first discovered by Captain James Cook in 1770. It overlooks the island of Keppel Bay, including the Great Keppel Island. Emu Park is a popular tourist spot, and has won several tourism awards, and features fishing, surfing, boating, and unspoiled beaches.
We also visited Yeppoon and several other beaches along the way - no photos as the day was rather windy and nothing of great value to add.
The monument does sing/hums due to the wind.
Below a well built lookout.
The Anzac Memorial at Emu Park below.
With an intense wind, you can not even walk.
ReplyDeleteKisses
A struggle trying to walk in the strong wind, sometimes only if one has too.
DeleteReminds me of an Anne McCaffrey title.

My goodness I haven't read that book. Thanks for the link went there and read about it, sounds interesting.
DeleteR. Mac Wheeler beat me to it. I may even have that book.
ReplyDeleteLove the views. Thank you.
Be much nicer on a clear day, but then a rainy day looks ok too for a change.
Deletegreat post.. love your travel blog always.. Do you know how I came to about Tasmania when I was little? First I heard about it when I read that yesteryear Aussie cricketer David Boon is from Tasmania. :) isn't that funny?
ReplyDeleteThanks krishna :)
DeleteFancy that then how you became interested in Tasmania.
David Boon was born and raised in the city I live in. He, his wife and his parents used to shop in our Garden Centre Nursery before David and wife moved to Hobart etc.
David would always stand aside and 'wait' till my husband was free to attend to him.
wow!! that's fascinating..
DeleteLooks like a not so pleasant day from that murky surf.
ReplyDeleteI should think that the Singing Ship Monument would have been
in fine "voice" - Luciano Pavarotti, maybe????????????
Cheers
Colin
Was not too cold on that day, that was all it had going for it - though we did have some lovely barramundi and chips in a sheltered area outside at a restaurant.
DeleteThe hum isn't that loud, but nothing like the 'voice'.
I was just in Singapore over the weekend and there's a Keppel Bay there too.
ReplyDeleteYes there is for sure, I just read about it :)
DeleteVery impressive. Thank you for sharing this memory.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome
DeleteI see a lot of places in your blog I would not ever visit, I'm not much of a traveller.
ReplyDeleteMerle.......
That's fair enough Merle. Some like to travel and visit, some don't. We are all different :)
DeleteI have not heard of the singing ship monument, that would be most interesting to hear I feel.
ReplyDeleteIt's different.
DeleteThe singing monument sounds great and it looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou have there a lot lovely places where to travel.
It's a large country with many roads a lot to see in some places
DeleteMy ex and I stayed at the caravan park in Emu Park, once (I wrote a post about this some time ago)...and as was my habit, as soon as we pulled in the first thing I did was go and check the toilet block to see if it was clean etc. Upon my exit from the inspection curious emus were waiting right at the door for me to exit....much to my surprise and much to the amusement of my ex!!! :)
ReplyDeleteHa! Emus were escorting you :) saw the caravan park there, well one of them.
DeleteThe people that visit the place are friendly.
That's an excellent lookout. Plenty of space and a good sturdy fence.
ReplyDeleteSo you take a holiday every year? Blog/reading material forever, yay!
Yes every year River, not often we miss a year. Even when we didn't have a caravan we went in car to Queensland, mostly Sunshine Coast, once to and stayed 3 weeks at Port Douglas.
DeleteThe sea looks beautiful, beautiful place too
ReplyDeleteIt the sea didn't look too bad considering the weather that day.
DeleteUn lugar bonito. Bueno, donde haya Mar...
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo y buen fin de semana, Margaret.
It's a bit different there.
DeleteYou have a lovely weekend too.
That is the coolest thing! I would love to sit and enjoy that view and listen to the singing wind.
ReplyDeleteThe view is beautiful on a clear day, have been there a few times in nice weather :)
DeleteA singing monument that is different, I wouldn't mind hearing it!
ReplyDeleteIt does look a nice monument.
Thanks for sharing your travels and photographs, I'm enjoying them.
All the best Jan
Thanks Jan.
DeleteThat monument is fantastic. I'd love to hear it.
ReplyDeleteIt's a hum that comes with the wind and the hum changes, it's certainly different to hear.
DeleteYou sure spend a lot of time on the road!
ReplyDeleteWe sure do, no point in sitting around at home, might as well be out and about whilst one can.
