We ventured up to Barron Creek Gorge in Winter 2016 in the Cairns area where the power station is.
Surprise Creek, waterfall is 243 meters high (792 feet).
The Power Station
Mother in laws Tongues growing outside the gate.
The road on the way to the falls and Power Station.
Map gives some indication how far we were from home.
Be rather hot now in the wet, and the falls would be just awesome to see. There were table and chairs with shading outside the gate - so one could eat there if one wished.
I don't think it is Andrew as didn't see any chairlift above or near above but it's in the vicinity of Barron Gorge and falls. Heaps of water flowing in the wet I expect. Did see photos recently of the falls at Barron Gorge.
Some of the creeks or the waterfalls have swimming areas. Great fun in the sun of the tropics. Some of the pools off the beaten tracks are "skinny dipping places" ( ha ha) Cheers Great report and photos Margaret. Colin "Erina Fair" Shopping complex/Mall (Huge) and Library
water falls are so fascinating to me!!! this road leading to power station and waterfall is really beautiful . You captured the whole view beautifully . take care and have safe travelling dear friend!
We used to have lots of mother-in-laws' tongues growing in our garden when I was a kid; and we had them growing in our garden in our first house in Sunshine Beach...and also in Brisbane. I've not seen any for a while now.
yes, the common name is Mother in law's tongue because the plant is long like a tongue and if it's gets wagging it won't stop! :) like a mother in law - well only a few :)
What a glorious spot - and in winter the temperatures would have been pleasant too. Now? Shudder.

I guess that is one of the falls you can see from the chairlift. There would be a lot more water in the wet season.

Yes they do have swimming areas and there are fish in some of them. Can't swim at Surprise Falls or anywhere near there.

ReplyDelete'Tis a very long way from home, but it's fun even if seen before by us...this was our 3rd visit to Cairns.

Deletemil tongue...good name. I can dig them up fast enough
ReplyDeleteok.
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat is that structure alongside the road behind the low clearance sign?
It's there to help stop the rocks from falling onto the road and cars - it'r for safety.
DeleteLong way, to reach a beautiful destination
ReplyDeleteSure was a long way to go.
DeleteGreat waterfall, it would be stunning in the wet season.

DeleteWell I presume my photos might help in some way.
How beautiful, and what a poetic name. It must have been quite a climb to get there.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't seem to bad to walk as in climb, I didn't notice it that much which is unusual for me..
Delete1. Spectacular, I would love to visit and photograph the falls.
ReplyDeleteWe were the only ones taking photos.
DeleteI did laugh at the name of that plant. Is that really what it is called?
