It's in the main street, which is a busy one for the small population.
An IGA Supermarket is joined onto the store, then you go through the door to view so many things one could and can buy. There is another room which sells all kitchen ware, I had a great time looking. Wool is also sold along with needles, crochet hooks and patterns.
The store has been in the Morris family all of the years.
So interesting to see the place!

ReplyDeleteYes, it's crowded, the aisles are close together and packed with all kinds of things, one has to becareful not to knock things of the shelves.

ReplyDeleteNo, don't believe it was ever a hotel, more like a family home for the Morris family.
DeleteHere he spends hours quickly , so just look different items that exist in the store.

DeleteJam-packed! It certainly looks huge. It must have drawn customers from a large area. I bet it was fun to look around.

Deleteyou rarely see general stores (at least in America) anymore. They have a really nice one the next city over from where I live but I can't think of a single other

ReplyDeleteThe two in Moree in the 1950's even sold things from saddles, bed linen to confectionery!!
I don't believe the one here in Swansea was ever a hotel - old hotels always had balconies.
Very interesting - things of the sometimes forgotten past.

I don't think the Morris store was even a Hotel, as you say, no verandah but once in while in Tasmania you will see a hotel with a verandah. I think this Morris store may have originally been the Morris families home.... these stores are few and far in between these days.

DeleteWe have a store near us called Gibson's, and they have aisles full of everything imaginable as well.

DeleteI remember the building but not what it was used for then. We stayed at a lovely motel overlooking the water, waking to the slap of waves and I think there was a nearby bird colony too.
ReplyDeleteI believe it's mostly been a store. The bird colony is still there but expanded, and could well of been in a different place back then.

Interesting...I wasn't expecting the interior to look like a warehouse even though the outside somewhat does. :)
