Glenorchy Family Picnic.

Tolosa Park is situated in Glenorchy not that far from the foot of Mt. Wellington.
Each year my late mother's family get together with their friends and we all have a picnic, sometimes some can't come, but then others can.  We all take food from our homes and share it, most of the meat is barbecued.
My husband and I leave home about 2 and half hours to get there by midday, and we arrive home about 11pm in the evening time, making it a lovely long day which was Sunday.

At the park there are 'huts' as they are called which are payed for in advance and booked so one can use.  There are tables and chairs plus bench seating.  The huts each have a different name and are built not the same.  There is a garbage bin, barbecue and water.  There is also a playground not that far away for the children.

Symphony under the stars is also held in the park once in awhile, mostly in summer.

Logs to sit on.

  1. Such a lovely park. I remember as a kid when my dad's mother's family would get together once a year for this huge family reunion (she was one of 12 children). We had a great time with these distant cousins from other towns.

    1. Fun times back then. People change the times and picnics don't always happen as a get together these days.

  2. That's very beautiful and to hear a symphony, outside, even better with bright stars overhead, now that would be spectacular! There are lots of family reunions held in similar large park picnic areas up at the Reservoir where I take my raft, in the summer.

    1. Well that's good to hear that families get together or people having picnics in the summertime. Here we are fortunate as we can have them all year round expect for a few days in winter.

    1. The huts are not close together which makes it more private. The weather was ok on Sunday with a bit of rain which was just passing.

    1. Thanks for the compliment :)
Funny you should say that - there is a company who uses my photos here in Tasmania, just sometimes along with many other people.

    1. You would be right there, but you would know better than I do for I have only been in Australia.

  8. I have many memories as a child of going on family picnics but they are something we don't do much nowadays which I think is sad because they were so much fun

  9. It is terrific that the huts can be booked. Melbourne large outer area parks have become so crowded, we have stopped having family events at them. Parking is all taken, shade is all taken, barbeques are all taken.

    1. What a shame it's like that over your way. In Launceston here you can't book to have a picnic which is a pity, it's just at that one park in Glenochy that I know of.

    1. :) It's lovely out in the fresh air, it's different than having a barbecue at home or a friends place.

  11. That must have been fun. A big get together in a nice park. It sure was a long day for you. I don't think we are up to those sort of drives anymore.
