The picnic was organized so we could all meet each other for those of us who had never met. People came from each State of Australia, so there were many of us. These are the people on my husbands mother's side of the family. I had a wonderful day, we all did.
Just a few 'cousins' the remainder are to the left.
There are 3 mountains in the area, this is part of one.
O'Neills Creek.
The tables and seats provided plus provisions for a fire.
That is a long way to travel for a picnic. I love the mountain shot and the creek looks very lazy.
ReplyDeleteIt was a long way to go but well worth it as it is a very relaxing natural place.
DeleteMargaret, you nature is awesome so I would like to see it persoanally
ReplyDeleteOne day you might get here to see if for yourself.
DeleteInteresting - "a meet the family" gathering! Never have had one of those.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be going to that area for a picnic or family reunion
in a dry summer period unless there are quick escape roads available.
That forest area is a bit TOO close to the picnic area for my liking (comfort),
especially if those trees, and I suspect they are, - gum / eucalyptus??
One careless person or a bloody arsonist on the loose and whoosh!
Lovely for a picnic in the rainy season on a fine sunny day.
Cheers
Colin
No quick escape from many picnic areas in Tasmania, many have bush settings and as yet, no one has lit the match! Thank goodness. I think they know better than to do that.
DeleteHave not been on a family picnic in years, we use to have lots of them when my girls were little
ReplyDeleteWell Jo-Anne, someone in your family might like to organize one, it's fun as you might recall.
DeleteWhat a beautiful spot for a picnic.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely place and we have many of those for a picnic.
DeleteWhat a delightful place to meet and picnic together. Happy you had this time.
ReplyDeleteWe were lucky to have such a beautiful day as in weather.
DeleteHow many came? Lots of relatives you'd never met? For one day or did some stay over? My father had 11 brothers and sisters and yet I don't know any cousins at all because he was an isolationist. I think family reunions would be nice, interesting, maybe even funl
ReplyDeleteAbout 150 people if not more came, all cousins and several knew each other, others had never met. Those that traveled from interstate stayed in the city of Devonport or with relatives.
DeleteThat was a large family of your dads. Well it was fun to meet everyone, and all were friendly.
A lovely spot for a special occasion. I'm surprised that they allow fires in such parks - it would seem to be an accident waiting to happen. Some visitors are sure to be uneducated or irresponsible.
ReplyDeleteYes, fires but we know that they have to be totally 'out' before we leave. There is a caravan park up the road, I expect the picnic area is checked each evening and day several times.
DeleteSome people are not responsible people but still it's drummed into everyones heads at school and no doubt at home to put out fires and not to light them on a windy day.
What a gorgeous setting!
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely and peaceful there.
