City Park, Rotunda

 City Park, Launceston, Tasmania.

It's always lovely to stroll in our City Park and that's what I did the other day whilst my husband stayed in the car.

The Rotunda in the park was built in 1908 and is dedicated to Chester Edwards, the Launceston City Band conductor.  It was built with funds raised in part through local donations.  The rotunda has a band play there mostly in the summer time on a Sunday. (Not a pop band).

  1. Cool photos

What a charming glimpse into Launceston's history! The Rotunda sounds delightful—rich in heritage and community spirit. I’d love to hear the band play there on a warm Sunday afternoon.

    1. It's a beautiful tree. Planted there of course as Tasmania only has one tree that loses it's leaves in the winter and it's in the high country on one of the mountains. The park is clean as most of our parks are.

  9. Do people watching the band play stand up? Sit on the grass? Or bring their own chairs? On a sunny day, the experience would be perfect.

    1. Apparently Hels, people stand, and some take their own chairs and sit, some lay on the grass and enjoy. Long, long time ago I sang in the park, solo at Christmas time..

  11. Well kept. Seems that vandalism is not Tasmanian - we need it here on the mainland.
Reminds me of that WW2 movie and Judy Dench with her theatre,
Mrs. Henderson Presents and the scene in that mark with the big time - politician
and the girls having to be naked !!!
So funny when he spluttered !!!

    1. There are many gates around the park Colin and they are locked at night. We do have our share of vandals, believe me, most places do.
      lol to the movie.

    1. Thank you Irma.
Autumn colours are beautiful and we only get them if the trees are not native to us. It's a way to show us how wonderful nature can be.
Keep cool up there and we will keep warm in our colder winter days.

Autumn - it's beautiful but if I had to choose, I prefer summer time and long days, like it is at my place now.

The blend of open green spaces with the elegant architecture of the Rotunda makes it a perfect escape from the city's hustle. Whether you're out for a morning jog, a relaxed picnic, or just want to soak in some local history, this place has it all. Thanks for highlighting such a peaceful gem in the city!
