Nile is located south of Launceston here in Tasmania, Australia and has about 150 people in their rural town and area.
The first photo we see the post box and phone booth. Once there was a Post Office but of course replaced now.
The old Church up the road has been relocated from elsewhere, someone thought it was a good idea obviously but it's become an eye saw these days along with the old home across the road.. The river is the Nile River.
The map show where Nile is with the red dot.
such a lush beautiful area dear Margaret !
ReplyDeleteenjoyed the post office story .
blessings to you and loved ones!
Thanks Baili.
DeleteThat delapidated house is an eyesore to the community.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is Catarina, the house is out of town a bit but still an eyesore.
DeleteI like the river!
ReplyDeletePeople probably settled near the river so they had water back in the day.
DeleteI cambiamenti sono sempre un pò traumatici per chi è abituato alle cose tradizionali, ma alla fine ci si abitua. Ciao Margharet un abbraccio e buona settimana, Angelo.
ReplyDeleteSo many people don't care for change, however with so few people in the town of Nile I can easily see why they closed the Post Office, but I can only imagine how the people didn't like it.
DeleteWhat beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteI like the wooden house and the river.
I enjoyed it.
Greetings Irma
Someone's home years ago, but alas no more.
DeleteMargaret, I virtually follow you on your journey through different parts of Austrlia
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying it Norma, it's good for me to find the photos of all the places I've been within Australia..I'm sure I have lost some photos of the years.
DeleteOh the stories the walls of that house could tell...
ReplyDeleteIt definitely could EC and the hard times those people who lived in there had.
DeleteIt reminds the Egyptian Nile river. Hopefully, Tasmania's Nile river's floods are under control and not causing big damage.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that the Nile River has flooded in the past but a long time ago, the Nile River flows into another one.
DeleteTodo está muy tranuqilo. Esa antigua casa, se ha quedado sin gentes que la habiten. Me gusta mucho la foto del río.
ReplyDeleteBesos
Very quite place there at Nile, the old house so over grown with grass a good fire hazard too.
DeleteThe old house is in really bad shape, they should tear it down. I like the view of the river, very nice. As for the church, what a weird location to place it. I wonder if any people went to a service there.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure no one went to the Church for a service or anything, it was just placed there and that was that! Silly idea. There is a brick church in Nile township which is rather nice and that one is used apparently but it was locked.
DeleteI agree the old house should be dismantled and it's a fire hazard with all the long grass there, but I expect no one will clean it up.
The river looks nice. Is it the Nile or South Esk?
ReplyDeleteNile River Andrew, it runs into the South Esk...Nile River often used to have many logs flowing down it/along it and some time back it 'fixed' somehow to flow freely so there wasn't too much erosion and so on.
DeleteI like the little church. Sad to see it empty!
ReplyDeleteIt has been a cute little church but no one cares for it now - sad really as it most likely will stand there and fall down.
DeleteSo lovely
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo-Anne.
DeleteLovely place. With a new coat of paint, the church will look good. The old house is an eyesore and should be pulled down.
ReplyDeleteThe old house wants pulling down and the church a few coasts of paint but I expect no one would use the church and it's beyond my imagination why it was placed there from another area.
DeleteIt is a pity that no one cares for these old places and probably no one might know who owned the house, but I do secretly think someone would know and they could then tidy up the place.
ReplyDeleteI see that you are not immune from spammers--- SO many small towns in our part of the world are disappearing due to lack of need. An excellent post.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteYes, one spammer at the moment now deleted once again.
So many towns have just a skeleton population these days, pity really but that's life.
Gostei destes olhares fotográficos.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e continuação de uma boa semana.

Thank you.
DeleteBeautiful post.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to see that house in abandon.
Nile is a beautiful place.
Nile is a sweet little town just a few streets.
DeleteChurches, relocated or otherwise, generally lack congregations these days.
ReplyDeleteThey do indeed, not many people and less as time goes on.
DeleteHi Margaret,
ReplyDeleteIt is certainly a very quiet place.
I really liked the first photo and the photo of the church, it looks so small.
I also like to take pictures of old houses, I always think about how the lives of the people who lived there would have been.
If only we knew the history of these old houses it would be very interesting.
DeleteThe church would have held a very big congregation.
How Cool Is That - So Rich In History - Have A Wonderful Weekend
ReplyDeleteCheers
Thank you.
DeleteLovely photos Margaret! Sad to see the old places go. The church would still look good with a bit of paint but the old house is beyond that now. Must have looked very pretty in its heyday. I see places like this on many of our road trips. Thanks always for the interesting blog post and that map, always interesting to see where things are.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Denise, many places back in the day were built next to the road it seems it was the trend too noisy these days..
DeleteAnother town I've not heard of previously.
ReplyDeleteTake care...enjoy the rest of the weekend. :)
Thanks Lee.
DeleteI always enjoy seeing your photographs.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite today is the third one ...
All the best Jan
Thank you Jan
DeleteUn paesino veramente piccolo.
ReplyDeletePerò deve essere bellissimo vivere in queste piccole realtà.
Would be nice c to live there if you like peace and quiet.
DeleteLovely old houses, in nature.
ReplyDeleteYes Bob certainly not suburbia.
DeleteRiver's water looks so pure and clean.
ReplyDeleteIt does look clean the water, it comes from the hills and mountains.
DeleteSe ve precioso, me encanta el río. Abrazos Margaret.
ReplyDeleteNice river to have flowing at your back door.
