The porch-like covered walkways are so charming--- and useful, I imagine. Great pictures.
Most places as in shops have those verandahs, they are there to help add shade and to keep the heavy rain off the people.

Old building have character as you say, I'm also fond of older buildings much prefer them than the modern ones.
