Bendigo, Victoria

On our way home I wanted to call into Bendigo Woollen Mills to buy some yarn for crocheting - I did :) and had a lovely time.
Bendigo is a city in Victoria and was a gold rush city in 1850's. The city has some beautiful buildings but hard to find a park to take photos.  However the Catholic Church is a Cathedral up on a big hill and I've put some photos of the inside of the Cathedral taken a few years ago.

    1. It sure is. It's large and a credit to the Catholic Community.

  3. If I am not mistaken the Bendigo area is a part of our visit to Victoria in October. I am looking forward to it,

  4. That cathedral is very impressive.
Bendigo did well out of the gold rush, and looks to be thriving still.

  5. Always the Catholic church at the top of the hill, looking down on the less elevated protestant churches. It is a beautiful cathedral and I have never seen it.

    1. Well worth seeing if you ever go to Bendigo - nearly always the Catholics built their churches in Australia in the 'best, highest' locations...that's how it was back then.

    2. The higher the hill, the closer to God.

    1. A delight to visit the Catherdral, inside and out plus the 'door was open', not like so many other churches we have tried to visit when travelling.

  8. Once again...wonderful photos, Margaret...both in this post and the previous post.

Places I've never visited. A good friend of mine grew up in Bendigo, and it's only been these last few years that she's ceased visiting the area. She is now in her 80s.

Thanks for sharing your trips and your beautiful photos with us.

    1. You are welcome Lee.
It's cold there in Bendigo in winter, but the beautiful buildings and the city makes you most welcome.

  9. That church is gorgeous! I've been inside old Catholic churches, they are cool and quiet, always. These days they keep them locked so thieves don't make off with things.

When you sit there, you become silent.

    1. Yes you do become silent, just sitting and thinking and of course praying.
