On the way to Emerald, Queensland.

Selection of photos taken on the way to Emerald in Queensland.  We went through a few mining areas.  Was odd to see this little 'shop' at a major intersection near the Highway.
The machinery was taken out the vehicles window.
The long train carrying ore, saw a lot of these coming and going as we travelled in this area.

  1. I'm not sure why but trains are romantic for me.

    1. These trains were ever so long which we are not used to seeing.
Here in Tasmania people don't go to work on a train for there are none to go on, but we have freight trains in some areas.

    1. Sometimes we meet a big rig on the back of the truck at a corner, sometimes we have to pull right over and stop, if they are real big there is an escort.

  5. There are some very big things in Queensland and looking at the map, it strikes me just how far Cairns is from Brisbane.

    1. Lots of 'big' things in Queensland.
Oh gosh it's a long way from Brisbane to Cairns with not a lot between.

  6. Those monster hauling trucks are a nuisance on the roads but they are essential to keep mining areas going with the movements of machinery.
Must say I had a laugh at the dam building comment. Dams with rain and on rivers do get pretty full in the wet season and Qld does have big "wets".
The ORE trains are incredible......all the electric train engines were taken up to the mines area leaving the diesel smoke guzzling engines and deafeningly noisey for taking the freight trains in and out of Brisbane suburbia!
"Can Do Campbell" was the responsible Premier for that idiotic idea.
I gather he didn't live near a railway line - ha ha!

Certainly was very dry in the Emerald region when you passed through going north. Maybe after the wet on the return trip the landscape would have been or should have been a lot greener.
    Great post.
    Cheers

    1. If we come across those large trucks there are often a few in a row, not scattered here and there so that's makes sense.
Would have thought the electric trains would have gone all the way!

  11. It's been ages since I saw a very long freight train. As kids we used to ride our bikes to the railway crossing just to sit and watch them pass, then we'd ride real fast into town and watch them arrive at the silos or wharf.

  18. That sure is some huge equipment being transported. We have food trucks here that bring food to different areas for purchase and they are quite popular at the beach and other places people gather.

    1. We have a few that comes to the beaches, however there is usually a shop near by so not always necessary for a food van.
Such large equipment sometimes we have to stop and pull over to the side of the road..
