A different look at Mackay, Queensland.

A different look at Mackay on the way down south.  We did stop at this city on the way further up north.  Link [here ]

    1. Many horses are taken to the beach in Australia to swim and run along the sand.

    1. We saw from a distance and it certainly was different, then was able to watch on TV in the evening news.

  5. I have a blogging friend in Mackay. It is nice to see a little more of her world. Thank you. She tells me that the clean-up after Destructive Debbie continues...

    1. I reckon Andrew, we all know what it's like for we humans when we walk on the sand.

  7. I doubt ( very much) if the beaches of Mackay will see the likes of Winx or Chautauqua in action!
Beach exercising for horses is excellent for their leg muscles.

That strange looking palm in photo #3 I have one growing in the front of my
new abode. Apparently the bulb in the centre only flowers every so many years and is quite spectacular but has a short living time. Maybe I will get to see one flower one of these years?????????????
I have forgotten what the palm is called.
    Cheers

    1. I'm fairly sure that is a sago palm.

    2. It looks like a sago palm as River has said.
I expect only certain horses can gallop on the sand for the distance.

  13. Mackay is a town I've not ever liked very much.

My late brother lived there from around 1964 to 1997. As children we'd visit annually after Christmas/New Year - our uncle and his family lived there for a while. For a couple of years when I was a toddler, before we moved back to Gympie where we were raised, we lived at Slade Point. And then when my brother married a Mackay girl and they started their family, our Mum and Nana left Gympie and moved up to Slade Point again, to be closer to the growing little family.

Briefly,in early 1998, I managed a motel on Nebo Road in Mackay...that was a nightmare experience! I wrote about it once on my blog. And, of course, Mackay was my major mainland port of call when I was looking after the then small resort on Newry Island. Newry is north of Mackay, north-east off the coast from the township of Seaforth.

You keep bringing back all these memories to me, Margaret! lol

    1. Hope they are good memories Lee :)
First time we went to Mackay we didn't care for the city much, second time was more favorable and 3rd time we didn't mind it at all.

    2. No, unfortunately, not all of them are good memories, Margaret. I intend writing about some of those experiences very soon, in my blog. I started thinking about them again after reading this post of yours.

    3. Like Lee - I only had a short experience of life in Mackay.
I don't have "fond" memories either.

In quite a few areas of Australia they have horse racing on beaches
plus training of racing thoroughbreds is also conducted with trips to our many beaches. You even fly over horses being exercised in the water at Botany Bay as you fly into Sydney's airport. The planes are not the least bothered by the sounds or sights of the planes.

  18. Those careers of horse, by the coast, reminds me to the that are celebrated, in Spain, in San Lúcar de Barrrameda (Cadiz).
