The Helmet!

The Header photo is what we see in the evening time :)
We are now in Ballina NSW (New South Wales) by the sea, 744km (462 miles) above Sydney, over 8 hours drive.  Heading to a place called Coffs Harbour for 5 days which is about a 2...1/2 hours drive south.
In Hervey Bay a town up north we came across this cyclist with 'things' in his helmet to ward off the Magpies attacking him.

    1. We call flip-flops 'thongs' :)
Many people ride bikes with thongs on their feet.

  3. Wow M, you are far from home. That is clever, funny and scary at the same time to keep Magpies away. HUGS xo G

    1. Still a long way from home G...making our way down south.
Those magpies do attack people, so hence the great invention of that helmet to help.

  5. Magpies live in such different climates, but they all behave the same with the occasional one attacking humans.

    1. They indeed do live in many different climates Andrew. As you may well know they the magpies cause people to fall off their bikes.

  6. I wonder if that will work on blackbirds (a San Francisco spring problem)

    1. Could work, worth a try. Australia only has a problem in the spring with Magpies and it's spring.

  7. Ballina sure is a great "small city". Fantastic restaurants and clubs to eating.
It is nesting season for the magpies, and they are doing their stukka diving stunts here also.
I oftened wondered what those ridiculous wire thingies were attached to cyclists
helmets. I don't believe for one moment that they frighten the magpie population.
Hope your home is not battered to pieces with these ferocious and damaging storms
    down south???
    Cheers and safe driving

We liked Ballina, didn't see a lot of Cafe's along the water strip, well not as many as I expected.
Home is ok we are told.

    1. Have seen several cyclists dressed like that over the years.
Hervey Bay is lovely and a ferry goes across to Frazer Island from there...whale watching and all of that.

Well, I guess if it keeps the magpies away - it can't be bad, and it's certainly different!
