Town Beach, Broome WA

Town Beach is not far from the Chinatown in Broome, Western Australia.
There is a Caravan Park near by and a restaurant that opens for breakfast, lunch but not dinner.

On that point is where people stand to take photos or view the Staircase to the Moon. Photos of this can be viewed online in Google.
Staircase to the Moon is a natural phenomenon which occurs when a full moon rises over the exposed tidal flats of Roebuck Bay. The Staircase to the Moon happens 2 - 3 days a month between March and October.

It's interesting what you find out when chatting to black people.  A man and his women came up to us whilst we were seated watching the sea.  This blackman asked us, "where you came from", we said, "Tasmania".  He went on to say that in some caves near where he lives, his ancestors had drawn many drawings/carvings of the Tasmanian Tiger.
How would his ancestors know about the Tasmanian Tiger some 6,000 klms from Broome!

You can see Town Beach Caravan Park which is always booked out except in Summer - the Cyclone Season.

Scuppers the Sea-goose was present with his owners one of the times we visited Town Beach.  His owners along with Scuppers go to different places in Australia asking to save the whales, the great barrier reef and so on.

  2. No shortage of photos of the interesting Staircase to the Moon. Scuppers is funny. Maybe the Tasmanian tiger was once on the mainland too.

    1. Glad you found some photos, pleased you looked.
It sees that the Tasmanian tiger was on the mainland because the blackman was very convincing, we believed him.

    1. A few beachs in Australia do have that reddish colour sand, yet down the road it's rather wite and further to that, Cable Beach only a few klms away is whitish..

  6. The beach sand is very red compared to our beach sand. From the photo of the cliffs, I can see why! I'm off to google Staircase to the Moon.

    1. I guess it's redder because in areas up there in the Pulbra most things on the ground are of a similar colour.

  9. Such red beaches make me think sunburnt country, strange that the blacks in Broome would know anything about Tassie way back when

    1. Oh yes, a sunburnt country it is Jo-Anne..i suppose because Tasma ia was once joined to the State of Victoria..makes sense.

  10. Hi
    I'm back in BNE.
    Interesting info. on Broome.
I guess the red beach sand would be from the Pilbara landscape - it's not called "The Red Centre" for nothing. As the aboriginals are nomadic people I can only assume from way way back in their "Dream Time" when Australia was all joined up, that's the reason in the Broome caves there are sketches of the "Tassie Tiger".
I wonder where the money comes from to troop around Australia with a goose on a "save the whales" crusade???
Strange the difference in temperature here and south - here only 28 Celsius but so steamy - "sauna like".
Still after the 45 Celsius with the winds at Pokolbin in the Hunter, I can't make up my mind what is worse - ha ha.
    Cheers
    Colin

    1. Yes that's corect regarding the sand. Not all sand in that area is of a reddish colour.

      Welcome back, good to see.

45deg is rather hot, but a dry heat i presume compared to where you are.

Donate i suppose to the goose, though i didn't see any sign of money being collected or asked for.

  13. The whole area is beautiful, but that first picture is spectacular. (I was going to say stunning, but Lee got there first).
Possibly Tasmanian Tigers were on the mainland too originally, but became extinct except for the few on Tasmania.
