We have been to Burra in South Australia. It's certainly nippy there in winter. A cute mining town of the past which began in 1851. The mine first closed in 1877, briefly opened again early in the 20th century and for a last time from 1970-1981. Miners and towns people primarily came from Cornwall, Wales, Scotland and Germany.
The mines supplied 89% of South Australia's and 5% of the world's copper for 15 years. Now a pastoral and historic town, it's the centre for many communities.

Burra is very nice and in so beautiful style. Can you imagine the picture with Jesus Christ is the same as in the most Roman Catholic Church in my country. The design is also the same as at my place.Miners houses looks neat but for me they are too sad. And the most buildings are made of stone I love them. Greetings from sunny Jedlicze we have 33 C and it's wonderful summer. Hugs for your dad. Stay healthy and happy. Your post is great and photos too. Now I have have much more free time so I can look for more information about your lovely Tasmania.
ReplyDeleteI believe all is the same in Catholic Churches. You know here in Tasmania the Irish priest and nuns came years ago to teach in the schools and the priest to say mass, but of course those days are just about gone..
DeleteThanks regarding my dad :)
Oh M your shots are incredible I truly would love to see everyone of those places someday. Take care hug xo G
ReplyDeleteHope you will see the towns oneday in person :)
DeleteHugs M xox
neat little town
ReplyDeleteIt was a tidy town, as many towns are in Australia.
DeleteThe little pub and hotel look so old-fashioned. I'd love to have a look inside.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I should have gone inside and asked if I could take photos, but the answer would probably be no...never mind I might get to Burra again one day then I will go in and ask.
DeleteFun to see these photos. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome.
DeleteSpecial last shot, this is the first hotel I see that really admit they are doing it for the money.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
Yes, that's true, not that many hotels advertise on their balcony's.
DeleteWonderful photos! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome.
DeleteSuch a lovely series of photos. I love the brick on the town hall and the hotel! I thoroughly enjoyed this tour, thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. The pattern of the brick is lovely, nice for a change.
DeleteI love the winter wattle - is it the same as our Mimosa? I had a plant of it in the garden but one very severe winter it sadly died.
ReplyDeleteYou have the same yellow wattle, Rosemary?
DeleteThat's a pity it didn't live, maybe you might get another sometime.
I am not exactly sure if our winter wattle is a Mimosa - however when I googled it same wattle as my photo. I will have to ask my husband see if he knows...it's very colourful amid the greenery of our other trees in the winter time.
Fabulous buildings in Burra.
