For many years my dad hasn't put salt on his meals nor did my late mum cook with salt, nor do I.
Having a re-think on that now as it seems all things in moderation might be best.
Dr. ordered dad to eat more salt, so now he puts salt on his cereal of a morning. Rather weird to me but that is how he likes it :)
Dad has improved and is back to his old self again - thank goodness.
Salt at Port Headland, Western Australia.
I don't use salt either - I understood that we get too much salt naturally and also from salt added by manufacturers!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's true what you say. Some people take salt tablets for cramp so I am told. My husband if he gets cramp he heads for the salt and puts a little on his tongue and the cramp after a minute or so goes. So it's very interesting about 'salt'.
DeleteI hope he doesn't eat all that salt, or he'll be mighty thirsty. Glad he is feeling better. Some people can suffer thyroid problems by not eating enough iodised salt.
ReplyDelete:) Diane, I don't think he could eat all that pile of salt :) You are correct on what you said about thyroid problems, he doesn't have a thyroid problem.
DeleteOh M I am so sorry this had to have been scary. I have low blood pressure and have to make sure I keep salt in my diet especially during hot weather. Salt is very important and dehydration is never a good thing. Glad all is well. Take care.xxoo Hug G
ReplyDeleteIt was a bit scary and even so more for dad. You are correct on all accounts.
DeleteYou take care too..hugs M xoxox
salt in cereal? I have a hard time imagining what they must taste like.
ReplyDeleteI know, it must be yuk!
DeleteSalt can be a killer if you have high blood pressure. I am glad your dad is doing better!
ReplyDeleteSo some medical people say. However, some salt is needed at times & thanks :)
DeleteIntersting article, I also just wrote an article on salt on the same day. How big is the chance of such an event.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
I read your article on salt - great minds think alike, they say :)
DeleteHello
ReplyDeleteWe have discovered your blog through our friend, Rosemary, whose posts we so much enjoy. We were most interested to read this about your father, particularly as we too subscribe to the belief that salt in the diet generally is not a good thing and that we take in enough in the normal way of things. However, that said, it is really good news that your father is well on the road to being back to normal again.

Hello Jane and Lance,
DeleteThanks for commenting and signing as a follower :)
Well, who'd have thought lack of salt could be an issue! Especially in this day and age with all the salt added to just about everything - restaurants being the worst offenders. Glad you found out the problem and that he's back to his old self.
ReplyDeleteAmazing isn't it Jane! I personally can't stand added salt cooked or on my food.
DeleteI know of several people who have been rather ill through not having enough salt and now take salt tablets.
And thanks :)
Salt on cereal............yuck..........
ReplyDeleteThat said I know that some salt is good for us like some fat is good for us I do not use salt in cooking but will add it to food that I am eating just don't like a lot of it.....
That's what I said to my dad - yuk!
DeleteYes, Jo-Anne we need certain amounts of different 'things', all things in moderation.
