Sunset, Townsville, Queensland, Australia

A sunset in Townsville at the Caravan Park we stayed at some years ago.  Many times we tried to get into the same caravan park, but it was always booked out.  It's just by chance we got in the first time we went there.

It's a lovely city, 3,300 km from home, so it's a long way taking several days to get there. It's the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and opposite the Coral Sea, the climate is tropical.  Magnetic Island is about 25 minutes by a ferry.

Townsville has two season, dry and wet.  The river in the photos is the Ross River and it's 49 km long.  Population is approximately 201,313.

I remember sitting on a seat by the river in awe of the sunset.  It was probably the first good sunset I had viewed on the trip up the east.

  1. We have a Townsville here as well though yours is much, much, much prettier. Very nice water shots. Happy Weekend.

We used to rent a cottage in the summer facing west. I saw gorgeous sunsets every day.

  5. Was für ein wunderbarer stiller Ort voller Frieden. Beim Betrachten der Sonnenuntergänge träume ich von Urlaub, Sonne, Meer.

    1. I try to Andrew, find the calmest water as I'm not really into being out in the strong wind and so on.
      Thank you.

  9. Quite a great place but get into that water for a swim and you are
on a suicide mission - crocodiles and sharks!!!!
Been up there in my much younger days of misadventure - ha ha!
Miserable weather here again at Terrigal and the surf is as flat as a kitchen table!
    Cheers

    1. Maybe a croc of two, we were told to look out for them seeing it's the tropics there in Townsville, sharks were not mentioned at all, Colin.
So you have had good times in Townsville..lol

  11. It seems like one of those rare, quietly perfect moments where distance, chance, and that glowing Townsville sunset along the Ross River all came together to leave a lasting impression.

  12. I like the gentle sunset and the peaceful river. I bet it isn't like that during the wet!

    1. Good to capture the peaceful sunset R, but certainly the river rises when it rains too much in the wet of cyclone if it comes down that way.

Townsville looks so inviting, and I can see why that caravan park is always booked. Lovely memories by the Ross River.

I think the sunsets there are much more beautiful than here in the Netherlands.
I wish you a lovely week.

  15. On my second visit to Australia ( sadly, almost certainly my last) we spent a week in NSW, a week in Victoria and a week in Tasmania. We toyed with the possibility of substituting Queensland for one of the other states, but you can’t do everything!

    1. No you can't do everything and be everywhere in a short time, David. You can only do what you can do.

  16. Dear Margaret, your description of long distance between this place and your home makes me wonder how big the Australia is 🤔
My native town in northern Pakistan is hardly one thousand and few miles away
These are stunning photos of beautiful sunset 🥰👍
    I. Love the reflection of glowing sky in water,so beautiful
Blessings to you and yours 🙏🥹

  17. Beautiful photos. It is such a treat to see those photos of the Ross River at sunset since it is a long haul to get up to Townsville. I remember those tropical evenings well and how hard it can be to find a spot in a popular caravan park. That view across the Coral Sea is something a person never forgets once they have seen it for themselves.

    1. It was very peaceful at that time of night in Townsville which is amazing for during the day it is a busy city and a bridge next to the caravan park.

    1. Thank you. I'm pleased you looked up Townsville and found about more about the city. It is hard to believe that the city only has two seasons, we like you have 4 here in Tasmania, Australia but of course nowhere as severe as it is up your way.
