The street above - well to the left was where I lived, house not there now they pulled it down and built another. To the left the two story building is the old public school, there used to be a long hedge there now gone, and it's there I had my very first kiss - unfortunately the young man was killed about a year later, came to grief in an accident.
The hill was called the sandhill, and within that sand hill is a great place to slide down the sand into a pit, got into heaps of trouble for doing that as wore holes in my underwear.
Below is a photo of part of the school I went to for 4 years whilst living in Queenstown. It wasn't far from home at that time, and we girls would all meet at my house to walk to school.

DeleteA very typical country town from the look of it. That post office in particular is very familiar. And reminds me of Bathurst in country NSW.
ReplyDeleteHave been to Bathurst and can remember the post office there - I think many post offices in Australia are built similar.

DeleteIt is still a little bit amazing to me that we segregate education according to religion. Science is surely science isn’t it, geography doesn’t change whether Catholic or Protestant, Jew or Muslim, or a member of the Cup and Saucer Worshippers Society, math is math......? What happened to the concept of public school being all-inclusive?

DeleteNothing happened to all-inclusive, all our public schools, anyone can go to them doesn't matter what religion, race or creed.
All other schools other religions, races or creed can go to them down here in Tasmania and I'm sure the remainder of Australia...

College, Hunters Hill - all 750 boys as BOARDERS!
