Waterfall Way, NSW

Heading from Coffs Harbour to Tamworth NSW in winter 2017 through Waterfall Way which is a windy road and of course waterfalls mostly having to drive on gravel roads to view them with no water or hardly any water coming down the waterfalls at that time of year.

We stopped on the side of the road to have a stretch went into the caravan to see if all was alright after coming around several bends and - found olive oil on the floor plus a worcestershire bottle of sauce on the floor and one heck of a mess.  Discovered the bottom had broken off the sauce which was a full bottle, the top had come off the half empty bottle of olive oil and the two had mixed together on the floor of the caravan.
(The door where we keep such things hadn't obviously been shut properly).

Now really this was one big mess - lucky we had paper towel which was used to get the bulk of the mess cleaned, my shoes were croc sandles making it easier to put the feet in the mess and clean after.
Luckily we had fairly hot water, so out came the mop, the pump went on, dish-washing detergent on the mop and off I set cleaning up the floor.
Amazing it was clean as a whistle with no grease left on the floor, it was hard to believe.
Washed the mop out put it back in place and turned the pump off and off we set for more of the winding road.
Yes we took the mess lightly and had a good laugh!

The pub in Dorrigo the town one goes through and below a shop both taken out the vehicles window as we moved around the corner.  Can't always stop in these towns because they have angle parking which is way too short for a caravan or motorhome.

These two photos are one of the waterfalls, no water.  There was a parking area and a platform to view the scene.

Just a branch of a tree taken near the platform - was practising to just get a small part of the branch in focus and blur the background - it worked.

Below 3 maps to show the distance from Tasmania, the second photo to show the bends, the 3rd to show from Coffs Harbour to Armidale which we bypassed.

  1. Dorrigo is the quintessential country town.
Love your photography experiment - something I have not yet achieved nearly as well.
Waterfalls good. Oil/sauce falls bad. And it reminded me of the dreadful day I picked up a four litre tin of olive oil to fill a jug. The bottom fell out of the tin. Oil went absolutely everywhere and the floor/cupboards were washed many, many times.

    1. Oh no, how dreadful and what a mess with that oil of yours. Couldn't help but laugh (sorry) your problem with it was much worse than ours.

    2. Now that the floor is clean and oil has stopped seeped out from under the cupboard I can laugh too.

  5. OH what a mess! Good thing you could laugh about it and had all the proper things available to clean it up. The countryside around the waterfall is spectacular.

  7. My God! Did you have a SENIOR MOMENT deciding to take that road with a caravan from the Coast to Tamworth?????
I remember it well when it could only have been called a "goats track" back in the 50's.
Unfortunately it was the quickest (???) or maybe only way from the Western region of NSW to the coastline around Coffs!
It may be quite a scenic road these days..........but back then you as driver saw only the road (dirt) and hoped to hell no logging truck would appear in front of you. Aaaaaaah - those were the days!
Have you got any photos to show of the present road? They would be worth seeing.
Bad luck about the saucy mess - ha ha.
    Cheers

    1. No Colin, no senior moment we have roads in Tasmania rather windy if not worse in bends than the Waterfall Way, it was a breeze really.
Can imagine it being a goat track once but much improved as sealed all the way and it's wide enough in places - no hassle.
Oil and sauce, they didn't mix well :)

    1. I can assure you Bill the waterfalls are quite spectacular when they are in full flood. The valleys are full of mist.......and that my dear man made driving on that old "goats track" all the trickier - ha ha.

    2. Would be just beautiful to see, and it would come over those hills like nothing else would.

  10. The Dorrigo Pub is impressive. Our friend in Launceston had family there and she used to fly up to visit them. She told us about a very impressive train museum that was being developed in Dorrigo.

Pity about the lack of water at the waterfalls. Have you ever seen Fitzroy Falls in NSW? Very impressive.

    The domestic caravan goddess, haha.

    1. No haven't see the Fitzroy Falls.
Didn't stop in Dorrigo the times we've been there.
Sounds interesting the train museum, we have a couple of steam museum's here in Tasmania.

  12. A waterfall without water would be a sad thing, I thought, but the landscape is still beautiful. I love the old style shop front.
The branch is a beautiful shot :)

    1. Many waterfalls we have visited don't have hardly any water coming down them in winter up north unfortunately so we don't usually visit them any more.
      Thanks re branch shot :)

  13. A caravan, a winding road & Worcestershire sauce sounds like the makings of a comedy sketch!
Glad it cleaned up quickly & you laughed about it! Love the buildings in Dorrigo.

I can assure with the rainy season they are quite spectacular.
Just Google Ebor Falls for more photos.

  17. The water-less waterfall is a far cry from how the Barron Falls up north are at present. They are raging.

    Great photos, Margaret.

But, OMG! What a mess that must have been! :)

  18. this is sweet of you to take the oil mess lightly and kept enjoying your journey :)

such incidents make our journeys more memorable sometimes.

word waterfall made my mouth warted as i LOVE waterfalls and used to see many in my native land when i was little but now like this one they are also enclosed as lakes and water storage due to more demand of water supply in the area
