The Tasmanian Tiger. Now extinct.

The thylacine, more commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger, was the largest marsupial carnivore to ever walk the Earth. It is believed that this creature went extinct in 1936.

Once in awhile someone will say they have seen a Tasmania Tiger, but there is never any photo. Who know, there could be in our dense Tasmanian bush.

DeleteIt looks more like a dog than a tiger except for the stripes on its back. So sad that many animals are becoming endangered and many extinct. Thanks for sharing with us.

DeleteIt sounds like an imaginary animal, a dog with a pouch and tiger stripes, but only on its back end, and the face of a Tasmanian devil! Too bad it is extinct.

ReplyDeleteIt would be. There was an Aboriginal man whom we spoke to in Broome last year, he was telling us in the caves in WA that there were paintings of the Tasmanian Tiger done by his Ancestors.

panther" which appears in one other state - I think
could be in the New England region of NSW?????
No evidence of prey (sheep or calf etc) have been found that this
so-called "panther" has killed and Panthers or Tasmanian Tigers for that matter are/were not of the herbivorous species of animals.
I think the "sighters" of this Panther have been on the Turps very heavily!! ha ha.

Have heard of the 'black panther', all interesting to say the least. Wonder who would get the bigger shock, the Tiger the Panther or the person/s who would see it, if that happened.

Yes there could be one around but who really knows, as far as we are concerned they are no more, I would have liked to have seen one but didn't happen and don't think it will because they are no more

He's not a pretty animal, but very distinctive. I'd be very surprised if any were found to be still living. Tasmania is so small, there can't be many hiding places....(I'm kidding :D)

DeleteThe Tiger used to kill all the farmers live stock, anyone's animals. A few captured ones died.

DeleteI think it is pretty clear this animal is extinct, but every so often people report seeing it and there are those who think it is still extant. But then people think the Loch Ness monster is there too!
