Map of Travels.

We bought a large map about 2004 and filled in 'black' the roads we have travelled within Australia. I share this map so it can be seen where we have been.  We don't travel on roads that are not bitumen. There are a few roads that we haven't marked.

My husband and I have travelled on some of these roads many times both motel/hotel and a caravan which we sold in late 2008 or early 2009.  I haven't included my home State of Tasmania.

After a 6 year break from a caravan, (we have been travelling in the vehicle to Queensland since) this year we will travel again within Australia later in the year having family stay in our house whilst we are gone.

  1. What a great idea to mark where you have been.

  2. That's really very impressive. Some of those roads must be incredibly remote with intricate fuel planning involved? It all seems very "outback" and exotic to a European!

    1. Yes, very remote. We did always carry fuel with us just incase. There is always fuel between distance, just a service station with a cafe attached. When we travel this time later in the year I will take photos and post them.

  3. That is a lot of travelling, looks like to me. I am someone who has barely left my home state and rarely leave the town where I live. I live vicariously through others, however, and their travels!

    1. Definately lots of klm - miles done by us.Many people prefer to stay at home for many reasons. I too enjoy travelling through other peoples blogs, I really like it.

  4. Good heavens! Incredible - I won't ever be disputing you on areas in Australia after viewing all that
travel! Even the Birdsville track seems to be there!
Interesting the inland WA route - Esperance to Port Headland?? That looks like real " never never"
country - you, camels, flies, sand and ???? - very daring indeed.
It's no wonder you knew the back streets of Moree, NSW !!!

It is a great idea to keep these memories - I have a World Map with all my travels - planes, cars and trains all marked plus an Australian map with my 'now rather' LIMITED travel routes. Just by looking all the memories of the route markings come back. My US travel and S E ASIAN areas have lines all over them.

I note one so far American has rarely left their home state! I found in the USA that this was very much the norm - aka "home is best". Aussies are most definitely the biggest group of travellers in the World.
Great blog entry Margaret - take a big bow.
    Cheers

    1. Many places we have been and seen within Australia, but no expert. We have to ask ourselves where we haven't been!
Have been to Port Headland a few times, the road down from Broome, well it's isolated but lovely, seems as if you are the only person on this earth in many places. On one of our visits to Broome we bought a new vehicle, now sold but we had to have it serviced in Port Headland as it had done the mileage, a 1,000 kms for the first service, at that time.

You can then appreciate your maps and routes you went on then.

We are indeed a nation of travellers but have said that I know of many people who have not travelled anywhere at all.

My husband doesn't like planes so he won't fly, so if i wanted to go outside of Australia it would have to be by myself. I wouldn't take a friend as I would prefer to be on my own.....I'm a wanderer and would prefer not to have a tour, but know that it would be better to do so.

Thanks for your nice comment :)

  5. It doesn't look like you have left too many areas uncovered, although like us, you haven't done the Victorian high plains.

    1. Very long isolated roads, drive for miles and not see a sole or a car.
