Longreach is a long way from any city in Australia, and certainly a very long way from my home about 2,500km.
The Qantas Founders Outback Museum is in Longreach, Queensland, Australia. We visited the Museum on our first visit to Longreach.
Longreach is 177km from Winton the original home of Qantas the Australian Airline.
I can't tell you which plane we boarded for a tour but I do remember this particular plane hasn't been there in the Museum very long in 2003.
Planes have certainly come a long way since then.
I guess the planes would be a lot different these days. Comfort is always the number one issue and in 18 years, I imagine that still is an important issue.
ReplyDeleteI've never flown in a plane like that one, comfort certainly would make a flight better
DeleteSo true about the plane! This one still looks quite comfy.
ReplyDeleteIt was ok, there was a seat we were permitted to sit on.
DeleteHi Margaret,
ReplyDeleteA very interesting museum, I especially liked the cockpit.
Take care
All those dials and things, very interesting.
Deletehay distancias, que es necesario coger un avión y así el viaje se hace más corto.
ReplyDeleteBeos
Yes that's certainly true but then you don't see much along the way.
DeleteThey are different indeed.
ReplyDeleteTrue
DeleteThey have indeed come a very long way. And travelled long distances too.
ReplyDeleteOh yes that's correct. I've oy seen photos or short documentaries on the newer large aircraft.
DeleteSo fantastic! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks
DeleteOh how I would love to visit there
ReplyDeleteWorth a visit Jo-Anne in and around that area.
DeleteI never feel quite comfortable on planes; nevertheless I wouldn't mind visiting the Qantas museum.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind planes but only within Australia.
DeleteThe plane seats look rather more comfortable than what is now provided. A friend visited Longreach by train and loved the trip.
ReplyDeleteThat's sounds a good trip by train. Expect they still have them. The seats seemed to be wide.
DeleteI remember that type of planes, years ago on a Madrid-New York trip, we had the opportunity to travel in one of those, honestly and even having traveled more times in planes, I perfiero the train.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend.
Best regards.
Interesting you recognise that plane. We don't have passenger trains on this Island. We have to fly or catch the ferry/ boat to cross Bass Strait.
DeleteSuddenly feeling some age--- I remember when the 747's were new. I'd watch them take off from SFO from San Francisco's Nob Hill and wonder if they were really going to make it over Mt. San Bruno. Amazing planes.
ReplyDeleteCan imagine how you wondered if they would get there for those planes as they look so heavy
DeleteThis plane looks quite new and comfortable. I don't like being in a plane and have only been in a plane 3 times.
ReplyDeleteIt has been well cared for that plane. It had done nearly it's quota of hours flying before it was put there for all to see. I like flying but my husband doesn't but he will y if really necessary.
DeleteUm belo avião, gostei das fotografias do seu interior.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e bom fim-de-semana.

I too liked the inside of it..thank you
DeleteHi Margaret,
ReplyDeleteHow cool to be able to take a look at such a plane.
That cockpit remains special and your heart always beats a little harder.
Nice pictures!!
Greetings, Marco
It was good being inside of the plane Marco. It's not often we get the chance to unless we actually fly.
DeleteInteresting museum. At last, after my retirement, I don't have to catch all those planes!
ReplyDeleteI should imagine catching a plane often would be a bit of a drag.
Delete2,500 km?.... aww,... very far distant....
ReplyDeletethe place sound very good to visit.
Oh yes, a long way from home here. But we travelled in the car to there stopping in Motels along the way.
DeleteA great experience, I am sure.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good one.
DeleteIt’s been nearly 15 years since I have been aboard a plane and not sure when the next time will be the way travel is going with so many restrictions now. That said, Margaret, I enjoyed this non-travel plane post.
ReplyDeleteThat's a while then. Who knows when any of us get the chance to travel at will again!
DeleteSarà passato tanto tempo, ma quell'aereo era decisamente enorme già all'epoca.
ReplyDeleteBellissimo e affascinante.
Yes a big plane to see and be inside. Thanks.
DeleteUna gran visita.
ReplyDeleteBuen fin de semana Margaret.
Un abrazo.
Thanks Laura.
