To George Town

Back to The Tamar River and George Town, Tasmania. Australia.
Stopped to take a shot of the river plus the Batman Bridge from the side of the road.  The bridge is that white thing in the middle of the photo.
George Town is on the Eastern side of the Tamar River and at the mouth of the river.  It's a much tidier town than it used to be, new buildings and a big play area for the children are being redone.
Once a fast a wave piercing Catamaran ferry sailed from George Town to Sydney, Port Welshpool to be exact but that trip was abandoned after several sails due to loss of income and sea sickness. The ferry was called the 'Devil Cat' which was built in our State Capital, Hobart by Incat who have built many catamarans and sold them to overseas buyers.
There are a few photos of the Devil Cat online in Google images.

  7. Looks like a great visit from your photos, Margaret. The third one is beautiful with the clouds seemingly suspended above the water.

    1. Good clouds, it pays to look up to the sky for it's always changing especially when clouds are there.

  8. Water and sky are dominant in your pictures. Bridges come with the water, clouds with the sky.I enjoy them all.

    1. Thanks Duta. It's a pleasure to be able to take photos of the water and sky seeing I live in an area with both about and within this Island.

    1. Thanks. Plenty of beaches here with no onw or not many people on them, even in summer the beaches are not packed.

  11. I remember that ferry and you filled in the details of why it is no more very well. George Town is terrific and one cafe at least does coffee and service very well.

    1. I recall you went there and enjoyed.
Went for a tour on that catamaran at George Town for it was open to the public but never sailed on it. Was called the sickcat whilst operating.

    1. No, not one and never saw any in the George Town area, never saw any in the Tamar River either but they probably live more in the wetlands of the Tamar River.
