Always my late mother bought cherries for Christmas thus it was and is cherry season. When mum passed on I didn't concern myself with cherries at Christmas time, my dad did it wasn't always convenient for me to get cherries from "The Cherry Shed" near where dad lived, but did once in awhile when he was alive.
It's just a large tin shed that has a cafe attached where the cherries are sold from December to the end of the season.
The last few years having really fancied cherries my husband and I called often in the season to buy cherries - this year the owners of the farm have lost 2/3rd of their crop due to the weather in spring, plus there are no cherries at the moment.
Today we bought some cherries at a fruit shop just down the hill from home - 24.99AUD a kilogram.
They got their cherries from Melbourne, Victoria. The cows got into the local crop and ate them all :)

DeleteWhen we lived in Brooklyn there was a cherry tree in our backyard that produced so many that we had to give some of them away. I miss it. The cherries came in July.
ReplyDeletethat's the problem with fruit on a tree, all comes at once for different teees. i miss having raspberries as my dad used to grow them and each week i would pick them for him and ourselves never running out of raspberries until the season finished.

i enjoyed reading about you purchasing of cherries and specially about cows that ate up the all fruits. actually it reminded me my native village where such incidents used to happen often and sometime people fought upon it by blaming others that their cattle spoiled our field etc.

DeleteCherry season used to coincide with my third child's birthday and she almost always got cherries as part of her gift. This year the seasons and weather have been capricious and K had to wait for her cherries. But she's 40 now and didn't mind too much.
