London Arch is an offshore natural arch formation in the Port Campbell National Park, Australia. The arch is a significant tourist attraction along the Great Ocean Road near Port Campbell in Victoria.
The span closer to the shoreline collapsed unexpectedly on 15 January 1990, leaving two tourists (Kelli Harrison and Davis Darrington) stranded on the outer span before being rescued by helicopter.
No one was injured in the event. Prior to the collapse, the arch was known as London Bridge because of it's similarity to it's namesake.

DeleteI like the perspective and the beautiful color of your photos. The 1 and 4, has a great, attractive visual.

The sea there, the colours are changing all the time. It's so very clean.
DeleteNothing more intriguing for me than the ocean and the rock formations.
ReplyDeleteI think it intrigues most of us no matter where we live.
DeleteJust think, there are people who have never seen the sea in person.
wow what great rocks in the sea..fantastic
ReplyDeleteIt is excellent Gosia.
DeleteKelli and Davis were so lucky. They could so easily have been injured or killed instead of having a good story to tell.
ReplyDeleteThey could have indeed. I bet they were rather worried at first.
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mildred but it's also a beautiful place to photograph.
DeleteIt sure is scenic down along the Great Ocean Road. Was obviously a terrific day when you visited - beautiful blue skies, tranquil seas.
ReplyDeleteGreat photography
Colin
Was a good autumn day, a little breezy but wasn't cold. So thankful for it being fine weather.
DeleteI can remember walking across that London Bridge as a teenager. It was open to the public to do that and was pretty hair-raising even then.
ReplyDeleteGosh, did you!
DeleteThen I expect those two that became stranded were worried.
I'd forgotten about the collapse and the two stranded on the remains. It is a good photo of the arch.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteI knew someone was stranded there when it collapsed, it obviously made out news at the time.
Another group of wonderful photos of a unique area of Australia...thank you. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome and than you.
DeleteWay back when I was in my mid teens on a family holiday we stopped to check this out I can remember that I found it fascinating my brother and baby sister didn't like it so much but they were only toddlers
ReplyDeleteOne would expect little ones to not be too interested.

DeleteOMGosh. I wonder if they'll bridge the gap.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. If it was to be done it would be by now.
DeleteI recall being told that story when we visited. Lucky that no one was injured!
ReplyDeleteExtremely lucky no one was injured. Could have been a lot of people on the bridge at that time - thankfully their wasn't.
DeleteI love seeing naturally formed bridges and always feel sad when one eventually collapses.
ReplyDeleteOh it is sad when they crumble into the sea and disappear - the 12 Apostles are due to that crumbling.
DeleteIt is the most beautiful and rugged piece of coastland. Your photos are terrific.
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane :)
DeleteLooks very beautiful.
