Geraldton Western Australia.
A few photos.
Having two digital cameras is good thing when travelling. The larger camera, the Nikon D7100 has been around the clock 1.1/2 times thus far. Smaller one is handy to take with me in certain situations, this one is a Panasonic DMC-TZID which I have had for ages. Then of course always the phone camera.
Totally forgot that the Panasonic had a built in GPS until I got to near Geraldton, so I turned it on and found it extremely handy for it shows me exactly where the photos were taken. So many places that one travels through that it's easy to forget, 'where was that one taken'.
Having an adaptor for the iPad is excellent for transferring photos onto the iPad whilst travelling, they are easily viewed and saves turning on the laptop everyday. They are still on the camera card and can be transferred at leisure to the computer or laptop.
A beach right next to the city.
The loos near the beach, certainly different.
On the beach at Sunset. The caravan park was behind me.
The Point Moore Lighthouse, located south of the Geraldton Port is a
cultural and historical attraction. It is the oldest surviving
Commonwealth lighthouse in Western Australia and was also the first
steel tower to be constructed on the mainland of Australia. The Point
Moore lighthouse stands 35m tall and its 1000w Tungsten Halogen Lamp can
be seen for 23 nautical miles. It began operation in 1878.
Janice, your pictures are so clear and beautiful this morning! My hubby usually makes notes in the evening when we are traveling so we can remember where we have been, or he takes a picture of a sign next to the photo.
ReplyDeleteOh I used to do what your husband does, but it's great having it all done for me now..
DeleteOften try to take a photo of a sign, but doesn't always work.
Thank you.
nice lighthouse
ReplyDeleteIt's very different that one.
DeleteIt looks like a lovely town and positively sparkling in the sunshine. Nice beach scenes too!
ReplyDeleteIt's a clean town.
DeleteThat's a beautiful place ! I am delighted with the color of the sea and the sky !
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Lovely isn't it. It amazes me how the sea changes colour in different areas.
DeleteGreat photos of Geraldton! Love the ones from previous post too of the HMAS Sydney memorial.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy. Hope you are safe over there with the fires.
DeleteGreat and lovely photos. Greetings!
ReplyDeleteThank you...and thanks for your comment.
DeleteLove the sunset pink tipped waves, and if you have to have loos near the beach then you might as well make them look as attractive as possible.
ReplyDeleteThe loos do look very different.
DeleteReally nice place . I love the old building. Do you have a lot of abandoned churches in Australia?
ReplyDeleteThere are many abandoned as a church in Australia, many people buy them and remodel inside and make them their home. Just a few are falling down, thank goodness it's not a lot.
DeleteLoving travelling with you. Stunning photos too.
ReplyDeleteThanks..:)
DeleteMy need for sleep beat the tennis (Hopman Cup) last night - I went to bed before midnight!
ReplyDeleteGeraldton ( with that bloody "D") is a very attractive large
town. Obviously a big shipping port from the look of that wharf,
which may be for cruise liners??? The "Welcome to Geraldton" sign!!!
That sign wouldn't be there for welcoming the sea gulls - ha ha!
Also the yachting harbour - deep sea fishing - marlin fishing??
Nice clean looking hotel and seeing that there is a surf board
shop obviously a surfing mecca.
Wonderful report - the Geraldton tourist bureau would be very impressed
with your excellent photos.
Cheers
Colin
I'll be up tonight watching the Hopman Cup.
DeleteKyrgios and "Dasha" - to win and then the final.
Go the "Green Team".
Colin
The main wharf is way behind that Geraldton sign.
DeleteFrom what I understand, Cruise ships sometimes dock in Geraldton.
Thanks.
Watching the Hopman Cup this evening at 8.30pm Tasmanian time.
Love those loos! You couldn't miss them when you needed one. The lighthouse is very striking with its red and white stripes.
ReplyDeleteThe loos are different, took me a while to work out what they were from a distance.
DeleteGeraldton appears to be a very civilised town. I like the look of it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it works on a blog, but sometimes when looking at the properties of a photo, anyone can tell precisely where the photo was taken, time, date and many details about the camera and its settings.
What I have found useful when travelling is to be able to wi-fi photos from the camera to the tablet, as much as a back up as anything.
It was a nice place Andrew.
DeleteYes, know exactly what you mean about the details. They can be removed if you want them to be in 'properties' of the photo itself.
That interesting about the Wi-Fi, my good camera doesn't have that. If I ever get another good camera, maybe that might have it.
It's such a pretty place! I really like that weather vane totem pole thingy.
ReplyDeleteThe Rubiks cube loos are great, I wonder if Red Nomad knows about them?
That is very different. I really don't know exactly what it is.
DeleteSure as eggs Red would know, she knows just about every loo in Australia :)
the beach looks so nice!
ReplyDeleteIt was...
Deletevery eclectic place...beautiful beach
ReplyDeleteWas a nice beach, the both of them.
DeleteA beautiful place to visit. I am enjoying the tour through your beautifully captured photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nancy.
DeleteThe toilets are very colorful and of colors cheerful. The sea is calm and the sand , soft. Is a beautiful place to enjoy the sea and the beach .
ReplyDeleteKisses
The sands was loike pearl on one of the beaches. Seeing it was winter the sea was indeed calm.
DeleteWhen I changed cameras a few year back I 'downgraded' to a 'point and shoot,' instead of going for a bigger DSLR. I figured I'm on the go so much and take so many photos that I wanted something that would fit in my handbag and something I wouldn't have to think twice about bringing with me. Best decision ever. :-)
ReplyDeleteCan relate to having a camera tp put in your purse... will always have one of those..
DeleteWell after last nights' tail biter I have had a long hard look at all these
ReplyDeletephotos of Geraldton. It would seem that the new buildings, including the colourful beach "loos" have no guttering. I think that is now the building regulations in cyclone prone areas of Australia - FNQ, NT and the WA coastline towns.
So I guess no tank waters attached to new homes????
I think the town drinking water comes from the Allonooka Summit tank and that holds 22,500 kilolitres.
An interesting project to look into.
Now for tonight!!! GO GREEN TEAM.
Cheers
Colin
Many houses in certain areas of Australia don't have guttering due to such heavy rain in the summer.
DeleteWatching the Hopman Cup too..
Winners are grinners eh?
DeleteAbout time after the one and only win in 1999 !!!
Colin
You take some amazing photos, and yeah how great it is that we now have digital cameras seems a lifetime ago when we had to take the film in to be developed and wait and wait for them to come back
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo-Anne and i too remember those days waiting for film to be processed.
DeleteImpressive collection of photos. Thanks to you Margaret I found a new use for Rubik's Cube. ⁀⊙﹏☉⁀
ReplyDelete:). Send a photo when done then please...
DeleteUn placer haberme pasado de nuevo por tu espacio.
ReplyDeleteUn saludo.
Thank you..
