A sunset in Townsville at the Caravan Park we stayed at some years ago. Many times we tried to get into the same caravan park, but it was always booked out. It's just by chance we got in the first time we went there.
It's a lovely city, 3,300 km from home, so it's a long way taking several days to get there. It's the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and opposite the Coral Sea, the climate is tropical. Magnetic Island is about 25 minutes by a ferry.
Townsville has two season, dry and wet. The river in the photos is the Ross River and it's 49 km long. Population is approximately 201,313.
I remember sitting on a seat by the river in awe of the sunset. It was probably the first good sunset I had viewed on the trip up the east.

We have a Townsville here as well though yours is much, much, much prettier. Very nice water shots. Happy Weekend.
ReplyDeleteFancy you have a place called Townsville...
DeleteThanks.
❤️
DeleteSuch a peaceful place, Margaret. Easy to see that Caravan Park is a beautiful place to visit. Great photo of the sunset.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
G.
Thank you Giorgio.
DeleteSo beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWe used to rent a cottage in the summer facing west. I saw gorgeous sunsets every day.
How lovely and I bet you didn't take any photos - or did you!
DeleteThank you.
It's a lovely place! The sunset and your photos are very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Thank you Marit.
DeleteSuch a beautiful place! Love the sunset :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was peaceful there at that time of night. Hopefully you will get a holiday overlooking the sea and seeing the sun everyday.
DeleteLooks so beautiful three lovely photographs.
ReplyDeleteGoodness though 3,300 km away from home!
All the best Jan
Yes Jan, a very long way from home.
DeleteThank you Jan.
What a beautiful place, dear friend! Your photos are stunning, Margaret! And I absolutely love your header as well!
ReplyDeleteThank you on both Linda.
DeleteYou are right, it is a lovely sunset. You always seem to find the calmest water.
ReplyDeleteI try to Andrew, find the calmest water as I'm not really into being out in the strong wind and so on.
DeleteThank you.
Quite a great place but get into that water for a swim and you are
ReplyDeleteon a suicide mission - crocodiles and sharks!!!!
Been up there in my much younger days of misadventure - ha ha!
Miserable weather here again at Terrigal and the surf is as flat as a kitchen table!
Cheers
Colin
Maybe a croc of two, we were told to look out for them seeing it's the tropics there in Townsville, sharks were not mentioned at all, Colin.
DeleteSo you have had good times in Townsville..lol
I would love to visit here. It is so beautiful.
ReplyDeletePeaceful there by the river, and a nice city too.
DeleteBella puesta de sol. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Same to you.
DeleteIt seems like one of those rare, quietly perfect moments where distance, chance, and that glowing Townsville sunset along the Ross River all came together to leave a lasting impression.
ReplyDeleteHow right you are.
DeleteI like the gentle sunset and the peaceful river. I bet it isn't like that during the wet!
ReplyDeleteGood to capture the peaceful sunset R, but certainly the river rises when it rains too much in the wet of cyclone if it comes down that way.
DeleteSuch a gorgeous sunset, Margaret! 🌅
ReplyDeleteTownsville looks so inviting, and I can see why that caravan park is always booked. Lovely memories by the Ross River.
Thank you Veronica. Yes, good memories of each visit to Townsville.
DeleteBeautiful tropical sunsets, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pauline.
DeleteLovely, heartwarming sunsets. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYlou are welcome, Bill and thank you.
DeleteWhat beautiful photos, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteI think the sunsets there are much more beautiful than here in the Netherlands.
I wish you a lovely week.
All the best, Irma
Oh are they! I do know that Australia has some beautiful sunsets in the winter.
DeleteThank you, and the same to you too.
On my second visit to Australia ( sadly, almost certainly my last) we spent a week in NSW, a week in Victoria and a week in Tasmania. We toyed with the possibility of substituting Queensland for one of the other states, but you can’t do everything!
ReplyDeleteNo you can't do everything and be everywhere in a short time, David. You can only do what you can do.
DeleteSo beautiful view.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne.
DeleteDear Margaret, your description of long distance between this place and your home makes me wonder how big the Australia is 🤔
ReplyDeleteMy native town in northern Pakistan is hardly one thousand and few miles away
These are stunning photos of beautiful sunset 🥰👍
I. Love the reflection of glowing sky in water,so beautiful
Blessings to you and yours 🙏🥹
Thank you Bail. Australia is large and to get to any place it takes forever.
DeleteBeautiful photos. It is such a treat to see those photos of the Ross River at sunset since it is a long haul to get up to Townsville. I remember those tropical evenings well and how hard it can be to find a spot in a popular caravan park. That view across the Coral Sea is something a person never forgets once they have seen it for themselves.
ReplyDeleteYou are right Melody. Scenes that stay edged in our brain.
DeleteSuch wonderful photos
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo-Anne.
DeleteBeautiful photos and location. Looks so calm and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteIt was very peaceful at that time of night in Townsville which is amazing for during the day it is a busy city and a bridge next to the caravan park.
DeleteVery pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you Hena.
Thank you. I'm pleased you looked up Townsville and found about more about the city. It is hard to believe that the city only has two seasons, we like you have 4 here in Tasmania, Australia but of course nowhere as severe as it is up your way.
Juvenal Nunes
Soo true.
DeleteTake care.
Margaret bom dia, simplesmente lindo o pôr do sol, desejo uma feliz semana bjs.
ReplyDeleteThank you and the same to you too.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo, margaret.
Thank you, and yes, a wonderful memory of this sunset, have never forgotten.
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous Margaret, a very serene setting.
ReplyDeleteWas wonderful to be able to sit there and watch the sunset in winter Denise.
DeleteYou've got a special gift from nature.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I see beauty even in the flat land with hardly anything on it as we travelled, many find it rather boring but not me.
DeleteHello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteSunsets like these and places like these are always remembered fondly and for a long time. It's so nice to relive such moments, and even nicer to be able to look back on the souvenir photos.
Best regards.
So very true in what you say. As I do posts I of course go through my photos and memories come back, the photos are good to see again for me.
DeleteBellas imagenes, que transmiten una gran serenidad.
ReplyDeleteUn saludo, amiga
Thank you, Ildefonso, good memories.
DeleteUna preciosa puesta de sol, me encanta. Besos.
ReplyDeleteThank you Teresa.
Indeed we should stop and take in the beautiful scenery in this world, Stefania.

Beautiful blog

DeleteBeautiful photos! Those sunsets, which seem magical, are breathtaking. It's a time of day I love, especially being in such a privileged spot and being able to watch the day fade into night.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
