Lighthouse, Devonport, Tasmania

The Lighthouse near the mouth of the Mersey River in Devonport, Tasmania helps guide The Spirit of Tasmania and a few freight ships into the river to berth.  The lighthouse was built on a stone base and is made of bricks, was built in 1889.

We had to visit Devonport last Monday for an appointment with the Financial Adviser our yearly appointment, all was well.
We also went to the Cemetery the Lawn one to visit my parents grave and I placed new artificial flowers there.
Then on Wednesday for the evening meal, dinner, our second eldest granddaughter came for dinner by herself for the very first time.  What a surprise and we had a wonderful time with her.  It will be her 18th birthday on Saturday the 4th of April.
Our clocks move back 1 hour on the 5th of April and also on that day, Easter Sunday is our 3rd Granddaughter's 14th birthday.

The photos here in this section are of the Bluff at Devonport and behind where I'm taking the photo from is the Bluff Caravan Park where we used to stay in our caravan after my parents passed.  Sometimes we would just take a drive to the Bluff and not take the caravan as Devonport is just over 1 hour drive from home.  The sea is Bass Strait.

  1. That's a beautiful lighthouse you're showing, and it looks tall. Congratulations on your granddaughter's 18th birthday! It was nice that she visited you! The clocks here have been set forward an hour, because we now have daylight saving time.
    Take care.

    1. Thank you Marit. Enjoy your daylight saving time, as soon as we moved out clocks forward it seems as if winter has commenced when it's only autumn.

  3. Margaret, it seems that the winds over there are very strong, I see that the branches of that tree are turning to one side.

    1. Yes it seems the wind has blown that tree slightly sideways but it's by the sea and the sea is not always calm.

  7. I think they may have built the Devonport lighthouse in its exact position in honour of your late parents. It is a grand memorial.

  11. Wonderful photos Margaret! I just showed your photos and map to my husband who was stationed in Devonport (South Devonshire, UK) for the two years he was on an exchange tour with the Royal Navy. It set us off on all kinds of memories. Thank you so much for sharing these lovely photos. I have always loved lighthouses and used to enjoy climbing them back in the day. Alas can do that no more, says I smiling. Loved your header and background today too.

    1. Thank you Hanka. I go to the grave at Devonport 100 km away several times a year. That particular beach at Devonport is only a small one and there are larger ones not far away.

  14. The lighthouse looks to be perfectly maintained.
I'm sure the caravan park you used was not the one we stayed in, in a cabin. It was dreadful.
I think I took a photo of that same tree, with a number of galahs hanging around.
    Enjoy the family celebrations.

    1. Every time you go to the lighthouse it looks good, yet I've never seen anyone painting it. No it wouldn't have been the same caravan park Andrew, there are a couple of not so nice ones in East Devonport I wouldn't frequent at all.
Yes, I've seen galahs in that area at the Bluff actually we saw a flock of them that same day around the corner on the grass.
      Thank you.

  16. Hello Margaret,
What beautiful photos of the lighthouse, also, congratulations in advance on your granddaughter's birthday.
Here, the clocks were set forward an hour last Saturday. I really don't like it at all, I can't really handle it either.
I wish you a lovely week.

Daylight saving - you wouldn't think it would make a difference to our body clocks, but it does seem to. I like daylight saving but many don't.
      Take care.

  20. It is so lovely to see the Devonport lighthouse still standing strong since 1889 and guiding the ships safely home. Having your granddaughter over for a solo dinner for the first time must have been such a special treat for you both.

  25. Wonderful pictures. Sounds like you had a very nice trip. I love lighthouses. The stories behind them are always fascinating. I like how different they all are. In years past I did a good number of cross stitch projects with pictures of lighthouses for several friends and family members who decorated a lot with lighthouses.
