The Christmas Tree

Merry Christmas to everyone, may you all have a safe and special Happy Christmas.

Last Friday evening and night we went out to dinner near the city center of Launceston, Tasmania, Australia with two of my husbands sisters and one husband.  My husband and I had Tasmanian Scallops with salad and chips (forgot to take a photo).  After dinner we went to the other side of town to youngest sister in laws for a chat, we got home at 2am.

My husband and I came through the city about 1.35am and I wanted to take a photo of the Cities Christmas Tree in The Mall.  There was no one about at all, so I was on my lonesome walking up the middle of the Mall to the middle of the Mall and took my photos.

First photo is of the Town Hall which was built in about 1864, taken from the car.

The Christmas tree which changed colours and was pretty to watch (no video), photos taken at 1.40am.

Looking down the Mall then last photo as I left the Mall.

  1. The tree's changing colors is quite a sight! The Town Hall dated 1864 draws attention and respect. The husband's three sisters seem to be warm, close family for you.

    1. I love my husbands sisters and one husband. Beautiful people and we all get on so well and have many laughs when we get together.
The Christmas tree was very pretty, would have loved a video of it but thought if I have to dash that would ruin the video stopping it when not finished.
The town hall is a beautiful building and it's used for council meetings one area of it, the other area is where you go and pay your rates and parking fines and so on...I believe there is a free shower there as well!

  2. Interesting to see the city relatively deserted like that. It seems pointless to have all those lights on when there’s no one around to see them.

    1. I was surprised myself to see no one about in the Mall that night. The tree helps light up the mall and I expect the city can afford to have the tree changing and I'm sure there are people like me who wanted to take a photo of it at some stage even though it be early hours of the morning.

  9. Have a lovely Christmas - we have decided on a low key Christmas this year. There is so much strife and hardships for so many people around the world today.

    1. Thank you Rosemary. We are not doing anything much for Christmas either, just home for Christmas dinner then to eldest son for Christmas tea...and youngest and his family for dinner Friday evening, so it's all low key.

  10. It's very festive and pretty. It must have felt eerie to be there without another soul around.

    1. It did feel strange being in the mall on my own, and any little sound seemed louder, thank goodness it was ok though and certainly worth walking there that short distance.

  26. The tree is beautiful, how cool you got to photograph it when no one was around; though I've not been up the late for years. Hope you're able to get a nap the next day, I know I would need one. Pretty City Hall also, I love historic buildings. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Thanks for your great photos... nice to look at.
It's been snowing here since last night, it looks wonderful and fits one of the most famous folk songs of Christmas... here with us... "The snow is falling quietly". It looks so wonderful outside.
