We went for a long drive the other day to the Great Lake up in the highlands. There are quite a few houses there but most are shacks where people just go for the weekend or holiday to relax by a woodfire and many to fish. Snow falls up there but we didn't encounter any.
The Great Lake is big and we drove around it mostly. The Lake is 114 km in area. Length is 22 km. The lake holds 3178 million cubic metres of water when full.
It is the largest hydro-electric water storage in Tasmania. The Lake contains brown and rainbow Trout fish.
I love that house with all the windows on the front. What a beautiful view they must have!
ReplyDeleteIt is rather a nice looking place for up in the highland area of the Great Lake, their view is ok with a few houses on the other side of the road which blocks part of their view.
DeleteBeautiful place, with incredible landscapes.
ReplyDeleteI loved the house in the second photo.
Extraordinary photos!
Thank you Maria. It is rather a nice house up in that area of the Great Lake.
DeleteSon muy bonitas las casitas y muy bien situadas , dentro de un paraje natural.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo
Yes all is natural up there, also wind blown in areas.
DeleteGreat fishing spot.
ReplyDeleteThat is for sure, many a fish is caught up there.
DeleteThe views are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteWhat a beautiful place to call home.
ReplyDeleteLovely and quite when everyone is gone back to their homes in the cities and larger towns.
DeleteThe landscapes is incredible!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on that.
DeleteLove the second photograph and the views. And that house makes the most of them.
ReplyDeleteThank EC, it's a picturesque place up there.
DeleteBloody great photos, there are some wonderful lakes around this country
ReplyDeleteThere certainly are Jo-Anne, most of them are very pretty as well.
DeleteThis is a scenic location. The rock in the last shot is very nice landscape!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good rock that one, wouldn't want any part of it to fall down on the road.
DeleteMargaret, beautiful images that make us know Australia, a continent of which little is known around here
ReplyDeleteYes Norma, the photos help you and other's to know what the country is like and what I see along the way.
DeleteThe area looks lovely at this time of the year. I don't think it would have quite the same appeal midwinter. That's quite a rock face in the last photo.
ReplyDeleteMid winter it would be a little different, still leaves on the trees but would look cold. Love that big rock.
DeleteThat rock face reminds of some film I have seen. Now to think WHAT !!!?????
ReplyDeleteSummer might be OK there but Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ! winter - Nope!
Colin
I can't imagine summer being too warm up there either, might have a few warm days that's all, you would freeze Colin especially if the wind got hold up there.
DeleteThat rock face - from the great Aussie movie 'AUSTRALIA" - Nicole Kidman
Deleteand Hugh Jackman. The mountain where the aboriginal elder. "King George" lived and called to the young boy - Nullah for his "walkabout" to learn the rites of the aboriginals.
Colin
Everyone seems to have something against mid winter.
ReplyDeleteSeems so, but it's same as beginning and the end of winter to me.
DeleteWow---- marvelous captures of this lovely lake and surroundings.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill.
DeleteBeautiful place to live.
ReplyDeleteThe view is fantastic, beautiful houses too.
Greetings Irma
Be too cold for me to live there as I do like the warmth but also do enjoy the 4 seasons that we have down here.
DeleteThe views are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I always enjoy a good view Jan.
DeleteDuring the week I need to be in the city with work, shops, family and friends. But on weekends and holidays, the idea of shacks where people relax, enjoy the spectacular views and breathe fresh air seems perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh yes Hels, I'm with you on that one. Thankfully our air quality isn't that bad here on the Island.
DeleteDelightful spot - those little wooden holiday cabins must make for nice get-away.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they do Rosemary, some of them are a home away from home.
DeleteI would love spending Summers there...
ReplyDeletehugs
Donna
Certainly be a lot cooler up there than down below.
DeleteSin duda un estupendo lugar para unas buenas vacaciones. Me gustan las fotos.
ReplyDeleteBuen fin de semana Margaret.
Un abrazo.
Many people go there and there are a lot of house amid the trees and hidden by trees.
DeleteThanks for the great photos. Love that second little cottage, it looks like it would be snug and warm in winter. That's a very impressive rock face!
ReplyDeleteI too like that house with those windows, never seen anyone there though when we have travelled by, but it does look cosy.
DeleteIt certainly is a big rock, wouldn't want that to fall on top of me.
Veramente un gran bel posto per rilassarsi
ReplyDeleteDefinately and it would be rather quiet as well.
DeleteBeautiful and it looks like you had really good weather to visit. The first house looks wonderful, with those windows you can sit and look out all day. Some of the landscape looks rather rugged.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
Yes Sandy, it's a ruggered area up there and cold in the winter, nice place to snuggle up in front of the fire.
DeleteNice place to live, I love silence, tranquility and scenic views.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I often spend beautiful days in our house by the lake.
That's lovely you can spend time by the lake, there is just something good about a lake with lots of water in it, it's always changing.
DeleteSe ve precioso, me encantaría ir a pescar. Un abrazo.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you would catch a good fish Teresa.
DeleteMajestic and breathtaking scenery dear Margaret!
ReplyDeleteI bet driving around lake and spending time with nature water specially is therapeutic: )
Was a lovely drive Baili.
