St Helens, Tasmania

St Helens is the largest town on the north-east coast of Tasmania, Australia, on Georges Bay.  It is known as the gaming fishing capital of Tasmania and is also renowned for its oyster as are other areas of Tasmania.  The town is about 160 km east of Launceston and takes about 2 and 1/2 hours to get there.  The highest temperature record there was 41.8 deg C (107.2 F) in a January but the graph doesn't say what year!

St Helens is a popular holiday place because of it's many beaches.
We visited the fish shop below a few times when we stayed there in summer and bought fish to cook in the caravan.
We are going to sell the caravan and it's been taken to caravan place to be sold, it might take awhile before it sells, but who knows really.  So I suppose we will still visit places and stay in Motels, Apartments of something like when ever we feel like it.

Down by the sea above and below in the caravan park. Several cabins are painted on the outside as below.

The Amenities block above, ever so clean with showers, toilets and a separate laundry.

A couple of children stopped to have a conversation near us.

Friendly bird who came to visit often - taken with my phone.

  1. Un bel posto per villeggiatura sia con roulotte che in albergo a seconda delle esigenze della famiglia. Bei posti, ciao Margharet e buona giornata, un abbraccio Angelo.

    1. No I haven't become tired of the caravan at all Duta, my husband is over it :)
As we age we can't do what we want to do and having been 18 or 19 times to the bigger area of Australia and with the inland towns so far from each other we have seen all we want to see.
      Thanks.

    1. Hoping it will sell quickly Jo-Anne, if it doesn't won't matter.
We will go away for less time, stay in some kind of accommodation as we used to do years ago. We can also do day drives from home as in doing 6 hours in a circle or something like that.

  13. It's probably a good idea to sell the caravan. They can be hard work at times and have to be maintained. Being able to stay in motels, apartments and cabins gives you quite a lot of freedom.
    St Helens looks lovely.

    1. B finds it hard work now, we would have sold it next year as that was our intention but seeing as the dealer said this year he would sell it for us we took him on. We have done motels, apartments long ago it's just getting back into the swing of things now we are older Andrew.

  14. Perhaps from now on it is your intention to know more distant places with which you could not use the caravan but by plane. It is another way to travel not so comfortable I tell you from experience.

    1. My husband doesn't care to fly unfortunately, I could go on my own but he wouldn't be very happy about it and I don't think I could walk the distance to see beautiful places Norma.

  18. Curiosity made me find out that the town is named after St. Helens on the Isle of Wight-- While our mountain is named for Lord St. Helens (who never saw it). I can understand being "over" the caravan. It was wonderful and provided great experiences and memories. I generally hate change (at my age), but I know you will find new places and new memories. By the way, I am grateful for the years of FB and Blog friendship. Hugs from the other side of the world.

Such a pity Lord St. Helens didn't see his mountain, but that's the way it was.

  21. With advancing age, we have to adapt and choose the options that are most favorable to us. Not having a caravan will not stop you from traveling, something you love to do so much.
Beautiful place, what colorful these cabins.
    Spectacular photo of the sparrow.

  24. Australia is a very beautiful country. My son bought a caravan some years ago and his life is changed in better: a lot of trips all around Italy with his family (wife, 2 sons and 1 dog).
That sparrow is common here too. They are very friendly birds.

    1. Well that is nice your son did that, you see a lot of your country when you travel in a caravan because you can stay longer if you wish.
      Interesting about the sparrow.
