The town Moama is just across the border as mentioned in my last post. The sign of welcome, the one if you blinked or turned the other way you would miss, well I would.
The Arch below is The Memorial Archway it was originally erected for the visit of the Colonial Governor, Sir Henry Brougham Loch. It symbolises the importance of the local redgum industry in Echuca, which supplied piles used in the construction of wharves in Geelong and Williamstown, sleeper for the railways, and export timber for use in India and other British colonies.
The Red Gum Memorial is a tangible reminder of the redgum pioneer, James Mackintosh, and his Echuca and Moama Redgum Sawmill Company which wa once responsible for the employment of over 500 people. James was a prominent local citizen, being a Mayor, and an elder of the Presbyterian Church.
The Memorial Arch is registered by the Heritage Council of Victoria.
Arch was erected in 1884.
And here I am traveling with you...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the ride.
: )
You are welcome, might be the only way we can travel for awhile.
DeleteGreat photos! I have thoroughly enjoyed your posts. Thank you Margaret :)
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Denise.
DeleteI would love to take a ride in the horse drawn stage coach, and I think the arch is both attractive and creative in style.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been for a ride in one either, maybe oneday.
DeleteHave been on the sled with my grandfather when I was a child and that was good. He used to take the horse to the bush and log a tree and bring it back to his wood yard to cut, that was fun.
Un lugar para disfrutar, como compruebo en estas bellas imágenes-
ReplyDeleteBesos
Yes, a good place to be.
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anita.
DeleteSo Cool & Thanx For Sharing - Enjoy This Incredible Month Of July
ReplyDeleteCheers
You are welcome.
DeleteSo far so good in July.
The arch is spectacular, and the coach ride looks like fun. Clydesdales?.
ReplyDeleteYes they are Clydesdales beautiful horses.
DeleteMy grandfather had two.
Nice arch, it's a beauty. Nice ride through the town in the coach looks grand.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!
Thanks Bill.
DeleteThat arch is different, was surprised to see one like that.
I'm not sure about the arch but the bridge arches are good. My stepmother lives a bit south of Echuca and she took us to the club in Moama one evening for dinner. It was good.
ReplyDeleteRemember going to Moama from Echuca the first time years ago to a meal at a club, was a good, my parents were with us.
DeleteThat arch is very different and they story behind it is interesting.
Great post on Echuca.
ReplyDeleteThose two Clydesdale horses would be living the life of Riley.
They certainly look fitter than the driver!!!
Colin
Luxury living for the horses Colin. The driver is a bit heavy...lol
DeleteThat arch is magnificent! What a stunning piece of work!
ReplyDeleteI love the horses...and the carriage.
A few years ago I got the shock of my life as I was returning from the supermarket one day....to come across a horse-drawn carriage travelling along Main Western Road, here on the mountain;. One of the wedding venues used it for bridal parties. I'm not sure if they still do.
It's not often you see horse drawn carriages these days. I heard horse hoofs and looked around and low and behold I took a photo.
DeleteThe arch is certainly different Lee.
Nice captures--- and I also like the horses.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bill.
DeleteLooks like a lovely place to visit. Love the arch, bridge and horse carriage.
ReplyDeleteIs a nice place Nancy.
DeleteHello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteNice to see the entrance to the town of Victoria.
Funny photo of that horse and carriage.
Good shots!!
Greetings, Marco
It's not everyday you see a horse and carriage in the street - the town area is flat and there is much to see in this tourist town..
DeleteIt is quite wonderful to discover the area in this way, certainly one of the benefits of travelling with a relaxed schedule.
ReplyDeleteLast winter we took more time in towns coming south as it was warmer for some reason, so was pleasant plus if you don't stop for a few days or more you don't get to see as much.
DeleteGreat photos of three wonderful sights:
ReplyDeleteThe Memorial Archway, The Bridge over river Murray, and the Horse and Carriage ride!
A delight to the reader's eyes!
Thanks Duta.
DeleteLooks like a nice place!
ReplyDeleteIt is Natalia.
DeleteThanks again for some great photos. You always take such interesting shots.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosie and you do too :)
DeleteLove your bridges, nice. And, the horses look down in mouth, poor things.
ReplyDeleteThey do a bit Bob, probably not interested in what they are doing..
DeleteMe gusta el puente Margaret. Muchos besos.
