Little Blue Lake is not far from Derby and Gladstone and is a natural phenomenon resulting from the pioneering mining days of South Mt. Cameron and surrounding areas in the Far North East of Tasmania. Originally a mine hole, the lake reflects a vivid aqua blue from the minerals in it's base.
The lake is acidic but I've seen photos of people swimming in it, which is not recommended.
Posted a photo of the Lake in 2018 taken by youngest son
here.
Our visit was the first.
Would be good to see the skin of these people after a dip in an acidic lake!
ReplyDeleteIt would be. I don't know how acidic it is, doesn't say on the notice there.
DeleteBonito rincón. Làstima que sea acido y no puedas bañarte, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo y buena semana.
On a hot day it would be good if you could drop in for a swim there Jordi.
DeleteYeah...mines leave nasty reminders
ReplyDelete...even if the water is pretty
They do, and there are many past tin mines and so on around the area.
DeleteSuch a gorgeous view !!
ReplyDeleteGreetings
It is rather nice Ela.
DeleteToo bad it is the result of pollution from mining but the color of the water in that lake is just amazing. I don’t think i would be going for a swim. It seems that acidic water would burn the skin.
ReplyDeleteToo acidic would certainly burn the skin, and I suppose a mild dose of it would not help ones skin.
DeleteAmazing blue lake, well photographed.
ReplyDeleteThank Bob and no photo-shopping either, it is as it is.
DeleteEl color del agua se ve precioso.
ReplyDeleteBesos
Certainly unusual colour and rather pretty.
DeleteThat water is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteHave to agree with you Adam.
DeleteWHAT a colour. And no, I am not tempted to swim in it.
ReplyDelete'Natural' is not always safe or healthy.
It's an amazing colour, I wouldn't swim in it either bit risky and the depth of the lake is not stated on the sign.
DeleteSe ve precioso, me encanta el color. Besitos.
ReplyDeleteThank you Teresa, also I agree it's lovely.
DeleteWhat amazing shots, such striking blue
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo-Anne, at least I didn't fall in :)
DeleteI remember the lake photo. It is just incredible.
ReplyDeleteYou ever know what you are going to find when travelling.
DeleteWhat a great photo of the lake, can't understand why anyone would swim in it but people do strange things. Another place to visit on my list. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCertainly worth a look and a photo Rosie.
DeleteI too can't believe that some people would swim it in - have no brains I guess :)
Incredible color--- Beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteThat it's natural colour - no photos-hopping.
DeleteThanks.
The colour is amazing! Imagine living near there and seeing it every day.
ReplyDeleteIt's a few klm from the nearest town..I expect those people don't call in often.
DeleteIt must be amazing to see such vivid turquoise blue water in a lake.
ReplyDeleteCertainly is different Rosemary.
DeleteBom dia, maravilhoso lago, é apetecível para entrara na agua, as fotos são lindas.
